The Evolution Of Shenmue

Names Of What Would Become Shenmue:

Shenmue wasn't always Shenmue. It went through many changes before it got to the form it is today. The first rumors of Shenmue was in late September 1998. At the time it was known as Virtua Fighter RPG because all that was said was that Yu Suzuki (creator of the Virtua Fighter Series) was making it and it would have graphics that equal Virtua Fighter 3 (it has since exceded Virtua Fighter 3 by leeps and bounds). Then it was renamed Project Berkley a few months later and a limited of pictures (not screen shots) were released. They were not all that impressive for this day in age but some of the specs and plot were released and it sounded promising to say the very least. It was later revealed that the title of the game would be Shenmue. It would center around the main carecter, Ryo, travelling from Japan to China to find the killer of his father (the plot has since been changed also). Also it was set in the mid 80's.The original release date was a Febuary 1999 release up to January 1999. but Yu Suzuki didn't feel it was good enough so they delayed it until April 1999 in Japan. Then finally some awesome screen shots were released. People went crazy over the fact that these shots were in real time!. This stirred lots of interest into this epic adventure. Since then the plot has changed as have some of the charecteristics. The game has since been shorted but the announcement of the Shenmue game becoming a series has excited many.
