Special #7: The Hero of Time
Blasting off into the deep remnants of the space-time continuum, Richard travels across the void to his home time period. He was dressed in his most comfortable outfit, a pair of gray baggy “swish pants” with a black tank top and light denim jacket, wearing a bear of all condition low top boots for his flight home.
It has been a month after the defeat of Caitlin’s evil and now he has a new mission: to locate and question a rogue Scholar descendent from his time period. “X-1 Alpha, locate other disturbances in the space time void coming from the year 2000AD.” Richard commanded his transport. “Searching….” Replied his time machine in a beepy male robotic voice.” After a moment of searching, “Located: A class 2.1 Time Machine going to year 2020AD in Sector H-1, Eastern District.” Richard thought for a moment, “Got her, X-1, follow those coordinates from the craft. I’m going to catch Trinity Gilday if it kills me.” The ship blasted forward from the blue void sprinkled with black dots of each appropriate day, month, and year. Then in a blink of an eye, Richard time machine vanished with him back to the future.
In a bluish outline of the craft, the time machine entered real space to his time period. Although not too much has changed in the future since we last left it. Buildings were destroyed and toppled. There were only paths to ghetto remains of major cities or towns. But there was an effort for rebuilding what was left. Richard hopped off his Time Capsule and scouted around for signs of Trinity Gilday.
While searching around, the dark and dreary night sky of futuristic world, there was a shiny object pointing out off the top of a toppled building. After Richard hopped with a great leap over the building, then he saw it…the time machine of Trinity. He slid down the building and examined it closely, for its design and possibly the designer. There was an American flag printed on the doorway, along with a set of numbers. “Hmm…if I didn’t know better, I’d say this belongs to the US government, and if my knowledge of the obvious serves me well, I have to conclude that she must be working for the government. I better find out for what reason though.” He thought to himself. Maybe I should look around for an installation and investigate.
He blasted off into the air, with an aura of “chi” surrounding him, giving him extra speed and power. He examined the ground for any buildings that may resemble an installation or perhaps even find Trinity. But he realized after a bit, that he should play a more stealth entrance to get a better investigation in. So he concealed his power by dispersing the aura and flying rather low to the ground. “Can I sense her? Let me channel a way to find anyone stronger then a human power.” As he flew down the strip of a torn up road, he found it! He sensed some character with a similar signature of energy to that of Mike.
He continued his stealth flight across the ground, when he came upon a fenced in area, surrounding a vast mountain. “I can sense a multitude of humans in there. I’m sure that this is the installation. I’ll sneak in the top. He leapt from his spot near the entrance to the top of the mountain, he was very careful to avoid detection from sentry cameras and turrets. He finally landed on a small alcove near the top, where a ventilation shaft was, “Ah, excellent, my way in.” he thought to himself. He blasted a small energy ball and the grate burst open. He got down and crawled in. It was pitch black within the shaft and he was barely comfortable in his crawl position down the reasonably small shaft. He finally began to hear light computer activity and some voices. “I must be getting to the center parts of this facility. I got to keep quiet, so no one hears me.” He crawled a little more, when he finally met up with another grate opening under him. He looked down and examined the area underneath him. It appeared to be some laboratory of some nature, where various scientists of many ethnicities studied many different things, but one thing that struck Richard from his spying was a door marked “Cloning Facility: Authorized Personal Only” and several guards, heavily armed guarding it.
“That’s it, I need to get in through there and find out what’s that all about.” He attempted to crawl beyond the grate, but the age of the building and destruction it felt from the Super Clones a year ago, gave away and fell to the floor, taking Richard with it. He fell on to the floor of the lab and was then surrounded by guards armed with automatic rifles. “A spy, quick, kill him.” One guard shouted. But Richard was frightened and out of ideas, so he did the only thing he could. He charged his “chi” into a flaming white aura, where the power he exhibited blew his captors away and smashed into the wall. They fell into an unconscious state. One of the Asian scientists pulled a small pistol from his lab coat and aimed at the Scholar, he fired. Richard heard a loud bang from behind him and turned, with his incredible speed and reaction he was able to turn and grab the bullet in mid air, not harming himself in the action. With his strength he squished the bullet in his hand to nothing but dust. “I think not!” he replied. The scientists motioned away and then all piled out of the room in screams. As they piled out, more guards appeared, armed with single-barreled shotguns. They aimed at Richard, but a hold-fire was called and they all stood up and saluted an older man, in his late 40s no doubt. By his uniform, he was a general who has seen his days. “Who are you and what business do you have hear?” Richard calmed his power down and answered, “I am on a search mission for a Trinity Gilday, obviously an Agent to the US Government. I demand to know what business she has in the time machine.”
The general, with the short gray hair, and matching moustache replied, “I have no idea what you speak of, boy. This is a secure installation of research, and I suspect an unauthorized entry. Boys, dispose of him.” The guards pumped their shotguns once, and then fired. Richard zanzokened in front of them and grabbed their weapons, one in each hand. He threw them over to the opposite side of the room and fired an energy beam and disintegrated them. “No, I suspect something is up, and I will find out.” The general’s eyes widened, “Are you…are you…one of them?” he asked nervously. “One of what? If it is a Super Scholar, yes I am.” Our hero replied arrogantly. “So you are one of them. The super being we have been searching for the past twenty years. Please, come to my office and we shall discuss a few things.” The general offered as he turned and walked out and Richard followed him, into a situation he knows nothing about.
After a few minutes of walking down various hallways the general stopped at a door and entered, Richard followed him in. It was a richly decorated room with bright red rugs and matching curtains, with a fine wooden desk and chairs. It was a beautifully furnished room that was a change of scenery from the simple textures and appearance of the installation.
The general offered Richard a seat, but he declined. He walked toward his full sized window and stared out at the workers and scientists busily constructing various things. “Permit me to introduce myself. I am General Osborne of the CCA. The new government branch formed by Admiral Dylag 10 years ago.” He began. Richard stared wide-eyed at his introduction, “Admiral Andrew Dylag?” he said. The general glanced at him, “Why yes. Do you know him?” he replied. “Why yes, I met him when he was but a teenager of sixteen back in his High School days. What started all this?” The general faced his window and continued, “Well, Admiral Dylag left Southbury after the death of all his friends due to a Super Clone menace and joined the Naval Academy at West Point. He studied a lot and was a very accomplished student and soldier. He had something special, more then your typical man. Well over the years and many promotions later, a pair of enormously powerful beings was being broadcasted all over the Television, attacking people all over the New England area. The US government knew nothing of them and sent attacks to repel these evil twins, but to no avail. But finally, the Captain Dylag (at that time) confronted the leaders of the military and told them the whole story. The legend of the Super Scholar was one of the most interesting things we heard. To think, a one-man army, someone capable of leveling nations by a stroke of his hand, something that would be feared. We were interested if there were any around that the good captain may want to inquire on and make him join us. But alas, all the known scholars were dead. Killed by those clones, a shame, really. So the President met with the remains of Congress and ordered a branch to form immediately for researching and studying the development of cloning and the Super Scholars. With the vast knowledge Andrew bestowed upon us, he was promoted to Admiral.”
Richard was amazed at the accomplishments the CCA made. But was discouraged that even a branch of the military of this magnitude would never be strong enough to kill anything that they have fought. General Osborne continued. “Well, reports came in last year that the clones were killed. We rejoiced for but a small time, because another threat much worse then those two combined is here.” There was a knock on the door, a lone and frightened private entered, “Sir, umm…He’s here and he is really mad.” He replied. General Osborne’s eyes widened, “Oh no, he was not supposed to come this early, we have one more week to finish. All is lost.” He began to weep over his desk. Richard came up to him and questioned him, “Who? Who can strike fear into a leader of your courage?” The general wiped his eyes and look up at the young scholar, “It is the threat I was going to tell you. After the death of the Super Clones, another figure appeared a few days later. He calls himself…Perfect Calabro.”
Richard choked a bit, “PERFECT CALABRO? But...but…how can that be…I mean. I can’t believe I forgot to kill him too.” The general slowly walked out of his office and explained some more as he walked to the cloning lab to meet with the replica of the mighty English teacher. “You see, he is using us to search for the Super clones in attempt to assimilate with them, finishing himself and becoming whole. But with the death of those clones, it was the CCA who took the credit and so he has forced us to replicate the robotics of that genius Dr. Gear. But our scientists cannot make such perfect machines with the coded DNA of people that died. The two Joes are dead and we have none of their DNA to replicate them. So he threatens to kill everyone of us if we do not bow to his wishes.”
“This is obsurd. General, let me introduce MYSELF. I am Richard, a descendent to the legendary Super Scholar. I have the powers of my father, the two Joes, and more. I can help you. I will challenge this monster and destroy him. It is all my fault I neglected to find him and kill him before when I was the one who blew up those Super Clones.” Richard said. “It was...you…? You were the one?” the general replied. Richard nodded
“I have come from this time period to go back to 21 years ago, before the invasion and change the past. I was successful, and we met with Perfect Calabro and he too was defeated. I returned to the future, found and killed the Super Clones very easily. I never knew that this clone existed in this time period. After a year of living back here, I felt a familiar energy leave instantly, and with my time machine I tracked down someone going to the past. There another adventure began, and Trinity Gilday came into my life. We met on a few occasions, but it wasn’t on good terms. From what I hear from you, it appears that she was there to gather DNA from a Super Scholar to clone one and defend against him. I see it all now.”
They turned in and saw him. Perfect Calabro was no different then the first time Richard remember seeing him. How he smashed his father up in the past, How Zuk fought and lost. How the others fell too. He was 6 feet tall with enormous muscles stretching out of a red Hawaiian shirt and khaki pants. His face was identical Mr. Calabro’s, but his eyes, expressed evil. He wasn’t as intimidating as the day he assimilated the two Super Clones, but he still was tough and Richard had no idea how strong he was in this timeline.
“General, where are my clones? I want them this instant.” The evil clone shouted as he slammed his fist on a desk in the waiting room and broke it in half. “Well…you see, my lord, our scientists cannot replicate the work of your creator, he is too case-sensitive and brilliant, and we cannot follow his design.” The general replied, very nervous like and timid. “Well, maybe I should just blow up this damn useless station, since you aren’t even worth looking at. The CCA…HA, the Counter Clone Administration. To destroy all Zephlin clones and all of Dr. Gear’s as well. Well you aren’t doing much.” The clone stated.
“Well, pal, shut your face before I rip you a new one…” commented Richard, he was very angry by the threats and tyranny of this clone. “I will challenge you to a fight. One versus one, if I win, I will kill you and you will not harm anyone, if you win you may take my time machine and travel back to the past, where the clones are and you may absorb them.
The evil one smiled, “Ah, yes. I have not had a fight that is worth a remembrance. I sense that you are a Super Scholar, and I gladly accept your challenge. One week from now, we will fight at the football field at the remnants of Pomperaug High School. Come and be humiliated!” With that, he saluted him and took and blasted through the roof of the complex. The general looked back at him, “Are you crazy, you cannot challenge that power?” The middle-aged military general looked toward the Super Scholar and he gave him the biggest grin. “Oh, but I can. I fought his kind before. I know how he thinks, reacts, what powers he uses and overall fighting style. Sadly, I don’t know how strong he is. I assume much stronger then the one I fought. Seeing as this one has seen more combat and trained a little. But I will fight and kill him” the Scholar replied.
“But first I want to introduce you to your only reason being here.” Osborne started to say, as a beautiful woman of 20 years entered, wearing a tight black spandex suit. “This is Agent Trinity Gilday, our top operative.” She smiled at Richard and reached out and shook his hand, “A pleasure to meet you Richard. I look forward to being your overseer for the duration of your stay.” Richard smiled back and was quite pleased with the general’s decision.
So then the training began. Richard asked the installation scientists to create a room with the dimensions: 40’x40’x40’, with a special control module that changed the pressure of gravity to a multiple of the first one. Richard believed as did his father that training in a Gravity chamber increases ones strength nearly as fast as the Room of Spirit and Time, but some less advantage.
Within two days, technicians, along with the simple to use gravity unit to change the amount of pressure inflicted, created the extra add-on room. But secretly, General Osborne installed several surveillance equipment and scientists monitoring the training sessions so they can create a more difficult training camp for soldiers to be as spectacular as Richard, despite the will of Richard who told him not to monitor his sessions. During the time of construction, Richard spent a lot of time with Trinity and learned a great deal of her life.
Trinity began her story. She was offspring to Mike Gilday and a very close underclassemen. Although they were not married, they still loved each other. When she was young, she was always in fear, fear that the Super Clones would come and get her and kill her parents. So, Mike, fearing this, sent Trinity to a friend in Northern Ireland, where he was living at the time. Because Mike was then going to confront his fears and battle those who killed all his friends. He flew off and never returned and assumed dead. The mother of Trinity went out and found her and told her the news. From that day forth, she had no love for her father. She remembered how he was a useless parent who would come back home drunk everyday and get into bar fights. Her mom still loved him and knew he was drowning his sorrows, but that was no excuse to her. How her dad left her and mom to fend for themselves while he goes on some suicide mission of revenge and dies on her.
From that day onward, Trinity was always determined to be better then anything. She studied hard, and worked hard. She finally received an opening at a job working for te government as a small time agent. She was very successful and moved up the ranks (mostly due to her father’s genes of super strength) and was promoted to lead agent. She then resides here, as an agent, living away from home and from her troubles. But she was in constant fear that her past would catch up to her and she would have to confront it.
Richard was much impressed with her accomplishments and felt sympathy toward the hell she has went through out her life, fatherless and later motherless. Richard felt an emotional bond that began to seed itself between them, Richard was there before, his father was brutally murdered by the hands of the Cyborg replicas and his mother was nearly killed as well. All his friends from the past all passed away from horrible deaths before he knew them in his timeline.
After the two days of getting very acquainted, Richard went into the Gravity Chamber and began his workout. The room was done to his specifications. His eyes wandered around, searching for something. He saw it and was not in doubt by it; a camera was well hidden in the deepest, darkest corner. He fired a small “chi” bolt and blew it up. “I informed the good general that I wish not to be disturbed by his scientists.” He muttered to himself. He walked to the machine console in the center and set the machine to 100g’s (100 times greater then the Earth’s current gravity.) The pressure hit him slightly and he fell to his knees, as he wasn’t used to the pressure at this rate spontaneously. He was only used to the 10g’s of the Room of Spirit and Time.
Then his training began, words cannot describe the immense power that he displayed during his workout. He practiced a routine of kicks and punches as well as ducks, jumps and back flips. The ferocity was so outrageous, this was seriously intense moments that mortal men cannot dream nor dare to see. Several scientists attempted to monitor the power exhibited using “scouter” technology implied by Dr. Gear many years before. The general and Trinity watched on from the command chamber with the scientists. “Sir, Richard is nearly at his peak power by these ratings, he is currently at 85% of his maximum power. His combat rating is about a little over 1 billion.” Osborne looked back at the young scientist at awe, “This is some power, a Super Scholar can exhibit in a matter of seconds. And according to his story, he was one of the weaker Super Scholars…amazing.”
The next several days his workout kept on getting larger, longer, and more intense. By that Friday, two days until the fight with Perfect Calabro, he was already training under 500 times Earth’s normal gravity. His muscular body was starting to take its toll on him for seriously overworking it under such pressure all at once. Within the first hour of setting it at 500, he fell to his knees. He was very tired and worn from all his training, but his mission to protect this future gave him the strength to continue. Trinity kept trying to communicate to him to stop doing all this at once. That he will overwork himself and never be able to fight for Sunday. But the young Scholar wouldn’t hear of it. He kept going, without any care in the world. “Ha, this is too, easy…” he said as he grasped his sweaty chest to help him breathe, “better set this up to 700g’s.” He ordered the console to up the amount to 700. But the incredible rate of increase caused the room to malfunction. The whole room shook wildly and began to fall apart. Technicians ran over to the rubble of the fallen chamber and were able to retrieve Richard, who was unconscious and seriously worn out.
After what seemed like forever to Trinity, the young Super Scholar awoke. He was lying in his bedchamber bandaged up around his arms, legs, and left side of his chest. “Oh wonderful, you are alive. I knew you wouldn’t leave me alone with all this destruction.” Trinity said to him. He smiled, and replied, “Well, I must have been blinded by rage that I did not see what stress I built up. I thank you for everything you did for me.” She nodded back. “Yea, I’ve been staying by your bedside all this time making sure you are alright and will be better for the battle.” Richard blushed, he had never had any girl besides his mother or the people from the past care for him so much. “Well, I have to run a report on this battle to come up so I will be right back.” Trinity said to him as she motioned closer and kissed him gently on his cheek. She got up and left the room to do her errand. Richard just blushed again and signed, “I think I’ve fallen head over heels for her.”
Within the next day or so, Richard had healed to his full potential, he decided to end his training as not to risk another bad injury and miss his awaited appointment with Perfect Calabro to meet the Angel of Death. He arose from his bedside and checked his clock that morning. “It’s 9:00am, I have one hour to reach the field and do battle with the most horrid villain in the world. But here goes.” He ran off down the corridors to the landing bay to meet with the general and Trinity for the last time before the battle. When he reached it, they were all there, all the marines stationed at the base stood at attention and saluted the teenager. He was really speechless, but not surprised. He developed a great relationship around the base, especially with Trinity.
She awaited him, with a bundle in her arms. He approached her and she handed the bundle to him. We found the remains of your father when he passed away. He wore a combat suit similar to this. By your story telling of your father’s heroic deeds, I thought to remember a great hero and to make another one, by making a Saiya-jin Combat Suit for you to wear.” Richard was truly touched by her gift. He quickly put it on and admired himself in the suit. “Thank you.” He said as he moved closer to her and they embraced and kissed deeply.
The general was a little impatient and interrupted their little moment with a grunt. “Well, Richard all the settlements have been made. You shall go directly to the field and battle that infamous being. We are sending 2 helicopter escorts to also film the battle for references and documentation for records.” Richard just shrugged and hopped into the air and flew off. He fired up his “chi” into a beautiful flame and flew toward the fallen school he once lived in before.
Thoughts and memories blasted through his mind every mile he crossed. He remembered the first time he met the Calabro Crew, the first time he fought along side against the Super Clones, even the time he trained before hand, as well as the time afterward. But also, the misadventure of junior year, the recent adventure.
He saw the demon standing with his arms crossed in the center of the field. Richard flew over and landed with a loud thud and released his “chi” and waited for his introduction. “Ahh, Richard, the day has come we shall fight till one perishes under the other’s might. So today, prepare your life.” The demon said as he leapt toward Richard.
Richard blocked by crossing his arms over his face and instantly and quickly burst into his Super Scholar form. From there the two blasted off into a rough fistfight, moving at extraordinary speed. “Hmm…I am only using a fraction of my full power. Could it be this clone isn’t as strong as the original?” Richard whispered to himself as he pounded back against the fists of evil.
The helicopters came in place overheard and Trinity armed a long-range video camera to see the one she loves in combat to save her life. She zoomed in onto the combat and was amazed at the incredible power and speed displayed.
Richard had back flipped and then dashed back at him as Calabro readied to block. Richard attempted to punch, but Calabro guessed at that attack and ducked and kicked him. But when it came in contact with the Scholar, he vanished, leaving his afterimage behind. Calabro halted for a single second and then felt the foot of justice crack onto his skull and he flipped over backwards. He hopped back to his feet and defended as Richard dashed at him again. The collided in a big smash, where they both zanzokened to a few feet to the left, then collided again, then another zanzoken. This intense battle raged for several more random movements. That is until Richard back flipped with his feet out and kicked Calabro in the face. Richard then flew dashed at him and he spun around in a tight circle spin to perform an air roundhouse. As he came near in contact with the demon’s face, he raised his leg high toward his mug and finished spinning and collided and knocked him up high.
“That’s it, your are just too easy to beat, now to finish you, evil one.” The scholar replied as he cupped his hands horizontally. He zanzokened and then seemed to split himself into four persons, each commanding and summoning his own MehaKameha and they spoke in the quad stereo as the charged it up. Calabro was overwhelmed at such a trick, so clever and deadly. He thought of a way to deflect it by blocking as all the Richards fired their beams toward the center and real Richard and all four beams collided, forming an immense beam, which then blasted right through the Evil Calabro. The beam was so intense, that it blew apart his entire body, leaving only his decapitated head, which fell over to Richard’s feet.
“So, you won this time, huh?” the head began to lightly say as the scholar. The bleeding stump of his neck oozed on the ground around him. “You forget to realize how good the clones created by Dr. Gear are. Before this day, I spawned my own clone and ordered him to steal your time machine and go back to the past. Well, specifically, the time when the Super Clones first invaded and were unstoppable, the year 2000.” He laughed hard as his brilliant plan, “I knew I wouldn’t win against someone of your caliber, but as we speak my sapling has assimilated the two evil Joes and become absolutely perfect beyond comparison. He will fight your ‘heroes’ and beat them all.”
Richard began to laugh and joke back at the remaining part of the evil, “Well, you see, you are too late. He is already dead.” The head’s eyes widened, “WHAT? That’s impossible. How…? I just sent him the other day.” Richard then revealed his story, “I went to the past originally to stop the clones in the first place. When all of us back in the year 2000 nearly defeated them, Perfect Calabro appeared for the first time and wanted to battle us. We fought bravely and we as a team destroyed it. So your replica has already lost before you even fought me.” He smiled. Calabro was in disbelief as Richard walked one-step and stepped and squashed the remaining unit of life of the head. “That’s for nearly killing us all. We the Super Scholars could not beat them, but the soul and love of the girls did.” Richard said to the leftover remains.
He hailed the helicopters above and they came down and landed. Trinity, having been worried and happy her lover survived, ran over to him and hugged him, and thy kissed. Richard held her close to her as he looked up to the stars of the blood stained sky of the hellish world he lived in, “Thank you all, you guys.” He whispered as he picked up and flew off into the sky.
*Richard never had a desire to return to the past ever again. With the time machine stolen and no longer able to go back, he never saw Tara again to build another. He now is done with fighting clones for good and all evils. But if something should happen in his time period, he will be back to stop it.
Richard and Trinity got married a few months later; they live happily together back at the military base campus where Trinity still is an active agent. A few years down the road, they have twin babies together. Their children, one they named Joseph and the other they named, Christina have not revealed all they’re adventured of Richard’s past nor Trinity’s to them. But over a nice family supper, Daddy Richard tells the children stories of super beings with golden hair and green eyes fighting off evil clones and aliens that breach the peace of Earth.
Richard lived to be a ripe old age of 78. He died a happy man with Trinity by his side. The love they showed together over the past 60 years together were memorable and he would never trade them for anything in the world.
“If only my father in the skies of heaven can look down upon me and smile at my accomplishments. If only my teacher, Philibuster could be proud at the way I handled myself. If only my mother can laugh at the times when hope was lost and we had nothing… but each other!”
-Richard, The son of Caitlin and Brian. The memorable words that he inscribed on his time machine to always remember what he was fighting for and what to look back on.
