Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Man, sorry for the late review. I was playing Resident Evil: Code Veronica guys. What do you think of when you hear Resident Evil? Zombies? Creepy music? Huge mansions where you don't know where the hell you're going and don't even want to open any doors to find out? I guess that puts the name to good use. From the first time I popped in the disc, I knew it was going to be something special. I saw the screens and that's about it. But since it was Resident Evil and made by Capcom, you can't say this game is going to be bad. This game is the scariest game out there. Hurry up and turn off the lights and prepare to be frightened like you've never been frightened before.

Does The Sight of Zombies Scare You?

The first time you pop in the disc, you are treated with one of the best, maybe even the best intro FMV you've ever seen. It's just gotta be seen to believed. The lighting effects are great and it can be seen in the beginning of the game by the lighter. But as soon as you step out, there are zombies that come out of the ground and attack you. But they're those naked zombies. Ewwwww! Anyways the zombies look sooo good that you might think they're right in your living room. They look so hideous with their flesh rotting and bleeding and their mannerisms are truly disgusting. This is where the picture of a zombie eating another zombie comes in. The characters are also equally impressive and much more pleasant to see than the zombies. Claire moves great and you can see her hips move left and right and as she moves her hair will too. Her face shows a lot of facial expressions like fear and mainly fear. But she's got a bad side when it comes to killing zombies. Guess that comes from RE2. The environment is great but there is a lot of fogging in some places and makes it hard to see. Guess it adds to the gloomy atmosphere. The cameras are like Dino Crisis. Sometimes following the character, other times standing still. It sure adds to the tension that something might be just around the corner. BOO! Scared yeah? Probably not. These graphics are the best in any Resident Evil game and that's that.

Scary Music Please

Don't you just love scary music? Resident Evil just wouldn't be the same if it had say, ballerina music in the background would it? That's exactly why the music, the sounds, the sounds coming from corners, the sounds coming from outside and you don't know where the sound is, is really freaky. You'll hear the slow opening squeak of the doors, the tapping and panting of the dogs, the well-known moaning of the zombies, and the even more quiet tapping of the bandersnatches. All the sounds are fully intact and fully realized. Your footsteps running from a zombie can be heard by the echoes and different sounds come from different things you step on. Like rugs and the such. The pleasing sound of the gunfire penetrating a zombie's body sounds great. Pop, pop, pop. It just sounds great. As soon as you hear the other sounds of the other weapons, it adds to the variety. Oh crap its the sound of that creepy music again.

Help I'm Stuck and I Can't Get Out!

Well the title doesn't really describe the gameplay. The controls are exactly like the previous Resident Evils. Hold up to move forward no matter where you are and the others are backwards and turning. Either you love the controls or you hate it. Love it or leave it. I find the controls adequate. I would have liked to add little pressure to the analog so I could see Claire walk and add a lot of pressure to the analog to see Claire run, but alas its not in the game and we are stuck with a run button. It's not a bad thing it's just a step down. So the controls are virtually the same, with some button actions located in different places. Plus the map is a button press away. What else can I say about the controls?

Overall

As I said before, this is the best Resident Evil out there. It'll get you spooked and make you watch out for things you wouldn't normally watch out for. Well maybe not like that, but pretty damn close. This is the one to own if you want to get scared or maybe if you want to scare your little brother. The game has enough to keep you busy for hours and hours. You just can't keep a good zombie down.
