At last this is it folks, one of the greatest 2D fighters of all time.
X-men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Superheroes, X-men vs. Street Fighter,
Marvel vs. Street Fighter, and the original Marvel vs. Capcom are still
the half-assed snoozers. If you have any of these games, after getting
Marvel vs. Capcom 2, you may just sell them. It's a combination of all.
Arcade Perfect
No system can make a game arcade perfect like the Dreamcast can.
With beautiful arcade perfect graphics and gameplay, you'll feel as
if the arcade machine is in your home, without paying 50 cents a pop.
Controls
Definitly a step up from the original Marvel vs. Capcom, the controls
in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 are easy. The two back triggers (or the corresponding
buttons on the arcade stick) are now used to summon your partners to
execute attacks for you. You totally forget the loss of the medium
punch/kick buttons. That's damn right ladies and couch potatoes,
there is no medium punch or kick button, so you have to hit with only
jabs and fierces. It's not as bad as it sounds though, because the
mediums can be executed by pressing jabs or shorts twice. Now, all in
all, the standard controller (or arcade stick) is much easier to handle
since the first.
The magic number is 56. There are 56 characters to choose from in
this game. YES PEOPLE! 56 CHARACTERS! So what's the problem? Well,
over 30 are hidden. But wait; hold on, don't walk away just yet,
don't worry, they're easy to access. Each time you beat the game,
(I'm not going to spoil who the final boss is) you accumulate points.
They act like money then you can buy the hidden characters. No more
of those finishes using specials for 2 rounds or finishes using a
team-up for another 2 rounds...blah, blah, blah...to get this character.
Oh, by the way, new levels and colors for the characters can also be
bought by using the points.
Overall
Believe what I say, if you love any of the some group vs. some
group 2D fighting genre, go out and get this game. With spectacular
graphics nice music, great voice-overs and the most characters in a
fighting game ever, buying Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will not be a regretful
experience. If you can't stand this type of genre, then what are you
doing reading this review?
