All I can say is, what a very nice polished game. This game has been
anticipated for a while and with running delays, would this game
ever come out? Well it's out and it's really one of the best
Dreamcast racers out there. One thing about this game though. There
is a huge learning curve. Cause this game is so real you'll practically
see flies on your windshield.
Graphics
Nice polished graphics make up this game. The most notable thing
about this game is the attention to detail in the backgrounds. It's like
you're actually in Tokyo, England or San Fransico. The real life locales
are there too, like Big Ben and the Neon signs you see so much of in
the city of Tokyo. If it's there in real life you'll see it in the
game. The backgrounds just can't be beat. The car models are nice
too. I would have liked with all the delays a little more reflection
on the cars, but what are you going to do? The cars move realistically
when you hit walls and other cars. It's like the real thing. The best
way to sport the graphics is, I think, is when the game is played
at night. The headlights are a sight to see and the lens flare is
really cool to look at too.
Sound
The music in this game I can do without. It's weird listening
to a lady singing while you're racing somebody in a tight race.
It just doesn't sound right. The good thing is that most of the
music isn't like this, but it's still something I didn't prefer.
The car engines, screeches, and downshifts sound correct.
Nothing to really complain about there. Actually there's not much
sound to this game besides the basics.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Metropolis is the huge hurdle you have to jump
over. The cars handle like their real life counterparts and it
will be difficult for people who play arcade racers. This is purely
simulation folks. But with practice you can beat the kudos system.
The kudos system rewards players who drive the smoothest without
any hitch in their driving. And things like doing sweet powerslides
on corners. The game rewards you for doing something right and the
rewards are extra tracks and cars. Once you really get a handle on
the controls and accomplish these goals, it's very satisfying.
Overall
This game as I stated is purely simulation. You have to put a lot
of practice in this game to truely master it and get all the secrets.
But once you do, it is satisfying to know what you've accomplished in
the game.
