It's hard to express fully the great sorrow we feel from the enormous tragedy of yesterday's events. Yesterday I put my computer to use, typing what I felt as things were still happening. Even that effort seems paltry. [As a note, while I am writing this, I'm listening to Peter Gabriel's "I Grieve" from the City of Angels movie soundtrack. This alone has been able to approach how I've felt yesterday and today.]It's equally difficult to fully express the anger we feel towards those who would celebrate in the face of HUMAN suffering. The attacks yesterday, while their aims may have been towards Americans, only ended up being attacks against fellow human beings, which is a very, very tragic thing in itself. America goes on, and we as a nation stand together against those who would wish to bring us down. The spirit of our forefathers live on in all of us; not just the forefathers of America, the founding men and women, but the spirit of the people who in later years believed in the same ideals set forth and came to find a new, better life.
And last but far from being least, it's difficult to fully express the utter pride I feel for the people of this nation for pulling together in the wake of the destruction. Everyone from rescue workers and firefighters, to regular people just doing what they can and what they need to do in order to help. The fight and the rebuilding is far from over; blood donations are still needed, and the rubble will be a long time in clearing. And, in the long run we may also find ourselves at war. This last, we do not know for sure. In that eventuality, I offer my prayers and support to the people in our military. I was once a part of the military, and so I have some idea of what you face. There are also resources if you wish to help or are looking for a loved one. A friend's page here has a great deal of information.
To the rest of us... let us all try to find a way to carry on, and show our allies and enemies alike that we stand strong and will not be defeated. We grieve for the souls of the people taken from this life too soon, and then we take up their burden and keep on. For it is when we give in and give up that all is truly lost; we have not before, and so we shall not now.
Whatever your faith... God/dess Bless. Amen.
