Most movies turned games do not work out well. There have been numerous attempts to successfully turn the alien and predator moview into games. All have failed. Aliens vs. Predator is one of the best first person shooters I've ever played. It took the atmosphere from the movies and transplanted it into the computer. The result is a scary, hard, exciting and overall awesome game. You can choose to be the alien, predator,or marine. Each species has its its ups and downs. The alien is a fast species but it has no long range weapons. It can climb on walls and jump extremly far. It takes some time to get used to the aliens lifestyle but once mastered,it is deadly. The marine is the slowest species and the second least durable. What it doesn't have in speed it makes up in its arsonal of weapons. The marine has a wide range of weapons. From its flamethrower to its sadar every weapon has a use. The marine would be the best character to start out with because most people are familiar with it. Then move up to the predator. The predator is the intergalactic hunter. He has a cloaking device , a medcomp for healing, and more. The predator is the strongest species by far. He is between the marine and alien in speed and is the middle ground between them. The predator is too specialized though. He has differnt vision modes to highlight differnt prey. If there is a marine and alien in the room, he has now vision mode that works well on both of them. Alien mode is not good for seeing people and vice versa. The graphics of AvP are pretty good. It has the best lighting I've seen in any first person shooter. This especially is good when you're playing as the marine. The lighting makes it hard to distinguish the aliens from the darkness and they can jump out at you suddenly scaring you to death. The marine is the most atmospheric character of all. Now back to the graphics. Besides for the lighting, the enimies are very detailed. The marines faces are lifelike and real looking. It is also cool to light the aliens on fire untill they burst spraying their acid blood everywhere. The marine's Sadar looks great. The sounds are taken straight from the movie. The beeping of the motion detector adds to the atmosphere. As you get nearer to an enemy it starts beeping louder and quicker. As an alien I always would listen for turrets. When you hear them moving back and forth its a sure sign to be careful. The gameplay is where AvP stands out. There are many enemies to face and they are unpridictable. One time they'll be in one place and the next they'll have moved on. AvP does a great job of making three differnt playing styles. The predator tries to get enimies without being seen. The alien wants to attack from the ceiling and use its speed to move in on an unsuspecting victom. The marine must be cautious and move around with the utmost care. Multiplayer is where AvP faulters. The first problem is that Fox chose Mplayer for their multiplayer site. Mplayer is just not as people frienly as the Internet Gaming Zone. You can not join a game that is already in progress. AvP has several main ways to play including deathmatch, Co-op, and predator tag. This game shouldn't be overlooked. It is definantly one of the best movie game crossovers ever and will keep you entertained for a while.
