Lee Ann Womack -
'Something Worth Leaving Behind'
If I will Love, then I
will find that I have touched another life..... In 1997, Lee Ann
broke through after years of working to hit it big. In 2001, Lee Ann had
a huge hit in both country and pop with 'I Hope You Dance.' It was one
of the biggest songs of the year and the album 'I Hope You Dance' went
triple platinum. She released 2 more singles from the album and then
took a break to record a new one. In August of 2002, She released
'Something Worth Leaving Behind.' Its a mixture of her old country style
and her new country-pop style to please her new found fans over in the
genre of pop music. The album
debuted at #2 on the Country Album charts, and she has released 2 hit
singles so far, 'Something Worth Leaving Behind' and 'Forever Everyday',
as of January 2003. This album is great and shows everyone how
country can still be genuine country, but still appeal to people who
like rock and pop.
Something Worth Leaving Behind
- 9.5/10 - A GREAT song that is a perfect showcase of her style.
Wonderful lyrics, great vocals, fantastic music. One of the best songs
of 2002 for sure. You will like this no matter what type of music you
are into.
I Saw Your Light - 9/10 - A soft, country ballad. 6 minutes long
and not boring. Has a lot of it instrumental, but Lee Ann adds to
it with her beautiful voice. Great lyrics.
When You Gonna Run to Me -
7.5/10 - This song shows that she can do pop, and she does it well. Very
pretty. Could make a good single, and could be big in the pop world too.
Talk to Me - 9/10 - lovely song! I would describe it as an upbeat
slow song. Strong chorus.
Forever Everyday - 8/10 - Her second single. It wouldn't be my
choice for the second single, but maybe third or fourth. A good song,
with nostalgic lyrics about growing up. It makes you happy to listen to
it.
Orphan Train - 7/10 - Good song, but I don't know how to describe
it. I think you would just have to listen to it yourself. Its
very...garage? I really don't have words to describe it!
I Need You - 4.5/10 - I really don't like this song very much. I
will leave it at that.
You Should've Lied - 8.5/10 - Lee Ann puts her heart into her vocals
on this song! Its very pretty and she sounds her best. Its country, but
people who are fans of pop and like her music will like this song.
He'll Be Back - 9.5/10 - This is tied with 'Something Worth Leaving
Behind' as the best song on the CD. It has a reminiscent quality too it,
its kinda jazzy and old-timey. It has a Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin
vibe to it. She performed this on the CMAs in 2002, and she did a
terrific job. Its a beautiful song.
Surrender - 7.5/10 - This is very, very pop for country music. Its a
typical pop/country song similar to something Faith or Shania would put
on their CDs. Not single material, but a good song. Good for nice
background music. As always, Lee Ann sounds wonderful.
Blame It on Me - 7/10 - This is an OK song. Nice and soft. Not her
best, not her worst. Just average. Nice lyrics. All around nice.
Closing This Memory Down - 6/10 - This song reminds some people of a
Dolly Parton song. She talks part of the song and sings the rest. I'm
not too into that, so I gave it a 6/10. Still nice. She has a great
voice, but it seems like this is just a filler for the CD.
Something Worth Leaving Behind (International Version) - 6/10 -
Great lyrics and everything as I said earlier for the regular version of
the CD, but I think this version was a bad idea. Lee Ann has a wonderful
voice, I've stated before :), but the way she sings this version-
isn't...well...good. I love the other version, but this version I don't
like. She is changing keys too often and that makes her voice sound shaky
and unstable.
Those ratings are my personal
opinions, so there is my review of 'Something Worth Leaving Behind,' Lee
Ann Womack's latest album. Its an album that showcases her new style
that is a mixture of two different genres, and she pulls it off well. And
that's something. Something Worth Leaving Behind.....
