The JR Central Shinkansen Network

JR Central operates exclusively 16 car trains. While the network is smaller than JR Easts and caters for less people, it also has faster trains, some operating over 300km/h. This line famously runs past Mt Fuji, though I could not go that far as I only had a JR east pass.

Accelerating to 100km/h, the Series 500 Shinkansen rolls through Shingawa in the late afternoon. The lack of natural colour here is further emphasised by winter, as no trees have any real foliage, making some parts of town look grey and forbidding. Above the staunchions, the Haneda Airport Monorail tracks can be seen.

The tail end of a Series 500 passes through Yurakucho. These trains, introduced in 1994, operate at 300km/h.

This strange looking shinkansen, the series 700, instantly got nicknamed "the duck" by yours truly. This one is also in Yurakucho. Whilst newer than the series 500, they are the cheaper version (in terms of cost to build). These travel at 285km/h.
