I lay before you
all that i am.
This is my gift
and my one expense.
For in this sense I find in you
something that i have never found
and in this sense you are
what i have always wanted.
And so I give to you my laughter.
I give to you my joy.
I give to you my heart,
And I sit here before you
and sense, at once, this lifted.
A wall, a fence, a barricade
through which I have watched this world
and all those in it.
And safe behind, I’ve felt no pain.
But silence was this life of mine
and you, my precious boy,
have brought to my life music, song,
beauty, color, wind, scent
life
I lived inside my dream
my cage, my cave, my shelter.
And you, as spring, have drawn me out,
and i find fairer weather.
To live inside this world of mine
was safe and secure and cold
and here I run a risk of loss
and pain
and suffering.
But I lay before you all that I am
and this one expense
is all that I have to offer
from my own, inside myself.
And I look to you with perfect trust
and perhaps to bring you
joy
