'Til Death Do Us Part- Part 17 Brian
"This should knock you out for a few hours," I said, getting her dose ready.
"Thank God."
I grinned and handed her the little cup.
"Here ya go."
She downed it and immediately wrinkled up her nose.
"Ew?! This stuff is nasty!"
I laughed. "Baby." I took the cup from her and filled it with water from the bathroom.
She drank that and relaxed some. "Better. Still got an aftertaste, but better." She eyes the bottle of pink liquid. "Reminds me of something I had to take when I was a kid. For my ear infections. But that was actually nastier, so it's all good."
I rolled my eyes and took the medicine out to the kitchen, since it had to be refrigerated. Then I went back to her room.
We talked for a little bit, until she started getting drowsy.
I let her sleep and went out back to shoot some hoops. I left the back door open so I could hear the phone or Mary or whatever.

Me
I woke up in the middle of a pretty deep sleep, kind of startled. I'd had a dream about Kev, the first in months. It was actually more of a memory than a dream, but I guess to have that back would be a dream.
I sighed, then coughed some. I groaned and rolled over onto my side. I hate being sick. It was so boring. Nothing to do but sleep.
I stared at the wall for a long time until I realized I was staring at mine and Kevin's wedding picture.
I mustered up the energy to get it off the wall, then got back in bed, the picture in my hands.
I held it up and looked at it. Five years seemed like such a long time before Kev died, but now it felt like a day.
I missed the last five years; I wanted them back.
I touched the picture lightly, imagining my fingertips on his face. I smiled at the memory. I liked it. No... I loved it. I still loved him. He'd only been gone about a week and a half, but it felt longer.
I sighed, coughed for about a minute or two, then continued to stare at the picture until I fell asleep again.

Brian
I went back inside after a while. I was all hot and sweaty now, and just a little stinky.
After I got some water, I called Leigh's cell.
"Hello."
"Hey, baby. Do you think you could bring me a couple changes of clothes with you when you and Christina come home?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
"Love you."
"Love you, too. Bye, babe."
I smiled and hung up. After I cooled off some, I went back to check on Mary. She was asleep with a picture on her stomach. I walked over and looked at it. After gently moving her hands, I saw it was her wedding picture.
I looked at it, holding it up close. They had been so happy that day, we all had been so happy. That seemed so long ago now.
I sighed and set the picture on the bedside table, then gently felt her forehead and cheeks. Still had a high fever.
I left her to sleep and went back out to the livingroom. I turned the TV on and changed the channel from Cartoon Network to MTV. Videos. Mary and Kevin. I groaned and jabbed the channel button. I really wasn't in the mood for that.
I finally found a half decent movie on some movie channel and watched that without paying much attention to it.

Leighanne and Christina came home about two hours later.
"Brian!"
I smiled slightly as Christina jumped up on the couch beside me.
"Hey, baby. Did you have fun with Leighanne?"
She nodded. "Yep."
"That's good."
"Can I go say hi to mommy?"
I shook my head. "No, mommy's sick and we don't want you to get sick, too. She'll be better soon."
"Christina, why don't you take your things to your room?"
Christina nodded and took the bags from Leighanne. After she left, Leighanne sat down beside me.
"I got your clothes."
"Thanks, baby."
"You okay?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine, just a little bored. Little worried about Mary. Little sad. Had too much time to think."
Leigh kissed my cheek lightly.
"Everything's gonna be fine. Hey," she said, gently touching my chin and turning my head so I faced her.
"Everything's gonna be fine. We just gotta ride this tough period out. You can do it, 'cause you're strong and I love you. Okay?"
I nodded and kissed her gently.
"You're amazing. I can't imagine how I'd be if you weren't here."
"Probably in a dark, dark room with no human contact."
I glanced at her and she grinned.
"Are you gonna stay here tonight?" she asked, lightly rubbing my neck and shoulders.
"I think so. At least tonight."
"You want me to stay with you?"
"Only if you want to."
"May as well, it's not like I have anything better to do."
I laughed and closed my eyes a minute.
"Honey, why don't you get a shower? You'd probably feel better."
I nodded and stood up, grabbing my clothes.

Leighanne
After Brian went in the bathroom, I went in to check on Mary briefly. She was still asleep. I'd never seen her sleep this much. 'course, I'd never really seen her sick, either.
I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned against the door frame, becoming lost in my own thoughts.
A few minutes later, I felt Brian's hand on my shoulder.
"You okay, baby?" he asked softly. I nodded.
"Yeah, fine."
"C'mon, let's go out to the kitchen."
I nodded again. "Alright."
We headed back out to the kitchen, drawing Christina out of her room.
"C'mon, honey, let's go start dinner," I said.
The three of us started dinner, then Brian remember about Mary's medicine.
