News and Updates
Ummm... Once again, it is a
slow week on the news front. Starmen.net has an interesting tidbit of
an interview with the almighty Mr. Mayamato. Mr. M says that it had
pained him gretaly to have to recently cancel a game (he doesn't say
EB64, but he also doesn't say anything about the title) and he says
that game will be released eventually... RPGamer.com STILL lists Mother
3 as "Upcoming", but we can only assume they forgot to update the
list... For those of you that care, Moonside.net (Not our site) is
still not up, and EB Funktastic Gameplay is back at Starmen.
Vote For the NL Background! - I need to distinguish a
good background color for the newsletter, I kinda like this one (Light
Yellow) or white. I want it to be simple and not too
attention-grabbing... I may just stick with this color though...

Ranks Update: New Ranks are in!!! Just because the upper ranks are not
filled up doesn't mean you are not worthy of the position!!! I thought
it would be a good idea to start the ranks near the bottom so
promotions and demotions will be easier to chart. (Instead of, say some
one being randomly chosen near tohe top of the ranks, and then cannot
be necessarily promoted...) So don't be mad if you are a Sentry Robot,
and someone who put in the same amount of effort as you is a Cafe
Regular. Ranks should change drastically over the next few weeks...

I have done something
worthy of a promotion
In the club, you are
promoted and demoted according to your behavior and participation. I'll
be straight with you: If you don't do anything, you won't be demoted.
Yes I meant to write DEmoted. I understand if you just want to join the
club and read newsletters. I used to do that when I was in other clubs.
If you purposely try to harm the club, you will be demoted, and only
then. You can be promoted though, and with promotion comes great
happiness! Here are the top five things you can do to get promoted:
1. Send me an old

2. Recruit 5 members: Promoted 1 Rank
3. Advertise on EB Message Boards: Promoted 1 Rank (If i get more
members because of the ad, you are promoted again) Note: I have no AOL,
so I cannot do this anymore = VERY IMPORTANT.
4. Help find other clubs to advertise with: Promoted Once
5. Help with Web Design and Logos: Twice Promoted
You need to notify me of your accomplishment though, did you think that
a promotion would come automatically?!? I would prefer you send old
Newsletters, or help with logos!!! ~Red

Moonside Polls
Last week's Poll: Will you buy a PSX2?
I thought this was an interesting question because of the seemingly
imminent domination of the console. It will be THE big thing this fall
when it hits Oct. 26th. I personally plan on getting one eventually
because of the Role-playing possibilities. (Final Fantasy X and XI).
Here's what some other people thought:

No, I won't buy a Playstation 2. The Dreamcast did not appeal to me,
and neither are many of the newer systems. While the ability to play
DVDs and old Playstation discs are impressive. It would take a hell of
a lineup to get me to buy this system. (I'm talking at least 10
impressive titles, not just another stale Resident Evil clone)

Well, my Playstation kinda sucks now. It freezes all the time.
Sometimes it doesn't even load! :( So, as long as I can play regular
PSX games on PS2, I'd buy it. I mean, my NINTENDO doesn't freeze as
much as PSX! Also, FFIX is the last FF on Playstation. I'm kind of a
Final Fantasy fan. I currently own all the non-Gameboy Final Fantasies
except for Final Fantasy 2.

This week in Reviews:
~ A Review of Xenogears
Red's Note: This is one of my favorite games of all time, everything
in it is spectacular, and it takes upwards of 60 hours to beat it! (It
took me 6 months) Thanks a ton to Crazed though, we needed a
review!
Xenogears

Here is a review of the Squaresoft title Xenogears for the Playstation
console. This is a game that came out in 1998, and is critically
acclaimed by many of even the hardest to impress RPG gamers.
Note: My scale is always fair, if something is junk. I will not
hesitate to say it is. A 10, really does mean a 10. And is very hard to
achieve.
Graphics: 8, the graphics for Xenogears, are quite impressive.
They are not the 3D blocky structures of other Squaresoft titles such
as Final Fantasy VII. They are reminiscent of the SNES RPG's quality
drawn graphics. The anime scenes are nicely done, yet not plentiful
enough. The graphics are nice, but nothing groundbreaking.
Replay: 5, you will love to play this game over and over until
you get near the end, it declines tremendously and you might lose
interest for awhile. When (if?) you beat this game, you probably won't
go back to play it again right away. Probably won't ever unless you are
tremendously impressed or have too much free time.
Fun: 7, this game is pretty fun. The plot is strong and complex
which should appeal to RPG game players in their teens. The battle
systems is easily learned and quite fun to watch the special attacks,
as well as attacking in your gears. The characters are well done and
likeable. This game is fun, but there are better out there.
GamePlay: 9, combinations, spells, gear fighting, manuvering
about, and the entire interface is very well done. It does not detract
in any way from the game, and you should be able to learn this game
easily.
Quality: 9, Squaresoft did not just rush out this title. They
spent some time on this game. While it has its flaws, they are
certainly not enough to detract an RPG game player from buying this
game.
Overall: 8, this game should be in the library of video games
for people who are into Anime and/or RPG's. Others should avoid it.
