Atonement was first brought forth in 1997 under the name Spendthrift. Spendthrift was put together under the hand of God by David Doss(vocals), Julie Gober(drums), and went on to later add Scott Bryant(guitar), and Matt Stone(bass). Spendthrift played for about a year before reaching a point to where God called them to call it quits. After about seven months of nothing David Doss(vocals) and Scott Bryant(guitar) decided it was time to start again. With the loss of their drummer and bassist, they had to find replacements and with new members came a new name. Spendthrift was changed to My Friend Eeyore. Adding Joey Venters(drums) and Josh Black(bass) to the lineup they were once again a band. After being together for four months, things didn't work out, so once again everything was put on hold. As time passed, David Doss and Scott Bryant felt it was time to put together another Spendthrift. The new Spendthrift consisted of David Doss(vocals), Scott Bryant(guitar), Joey Hulsey(drums), and Jason(bass). After months of practice, Jason decided to leave the band. About a month down the road a second guitarist was added, Jeff Gant. They practiced together for a month before circumstances led for the departure of guitarist Scott Bryant. Spendthrift continued practicing for a few months until bassist Corey was found. With almost all new members it was time to change the name. So Atonement was born. The full line-up for Atonement consisted of David Doss(vocals), Jeff Gant(guitar), Joey Hulsey(drums), and Corey(bass). And with Atonement well on its way, God began to move. After playing several shows, Atonement felt it was time to add a second guitarist, so they added guitarist Brian Conner to the lineup. After a little while, Corey felt it was time to step down from playing bass. Atonement did a few shows without a bass player, then added Tanya Dent for a few shows. When Tanya had to move on to other things, God sent Charlie Holloway to play bass. After some more prayer and responding to God, Jeffery Gant stepped out of the band. We prayed and God sent us a friend of ours, Rex Rexington to play guitar. That is how it stands today.
