  
In 1989, I decided that it was time to change careers so that my husband and I might start a family. So, I left the world of computers and finance behind and searched for a career that would allow me the freedom and flexibility to raise a child "hands on" and still do something I love. Pet services seemed the perfect choice and I never looked back.
Working with animals is something I have done all my life, in one way or another. I have always felt a deep affection and even kinship to my pets and this business has only strengthened that feeling.
Having decided that the Pet industry was my goal, I started apprenticing with a well known and accomplished groomer who had the style and attention to detail that I wanted to learn. Carla Brantley, of Dogwood Kennels, took me under her wing and into her family. She was very exacting in her teaching which caused me to constantly strive to not only outdo myself, but to find different ways to make styles and breeds look better. I could never have gotten the education in animal care and grooming that I received from her from any school nor do I feel that anyone else would have had the patience and unselfishness that she has shown me and continues to share with me. We have become a wonderful team and even while I open my shop and expand to different areas of pet services, we still spend a great deal of time sharing notes and helping each other. I try to continue the gift she gave me by trying to aid anyone who is new to the business or has questions or aspirations to become members of this wonderful field.
