Jeff: Welcome back to the program. This is the LAW, Live Audio Wrestling. I am Jeff Marek along with Big Daddy Donnie. As we head into the second hour. A couple of more guests. We still have Dean Malenko, Christian will join us shortly. And don't forget folks, in the next segment we will be giving away WWF No Way Out prize packs.

[Jeff continues his interview with Dean Malenko.]

Jeff: Joining us on the line is one of the brightest young talents in the wrestling business. He is from neighboring Orangeville, Ontario right close to Toronto. It is always nice to welcome back to the program Christian. Christian, how are you doing today?

Christian: Uh, kinda tired. How are you guys doing?

Jeff: We just want to ask you. You said in the past on this program that you are not interested in working the lightweight division. You were the lightweight champion before. You decided not to keep the title. You didn't want to work for that title anymore. Dean said earlier, just a little while ago, that he wouldn't mind getting into a division like that. If he did, would that be of interest to you?

Christian: Yeah, um. Well, the way that it was set up is that they didn't have like a solid division. They didn't have a lot of guys. They had very good guys, but that was it. You know. And, um, if they were to seriously build it up. That is definitely something I would be interested in, but at this point, I think I have gotten away from being kind of, um, seen as just being a light heavyweight. I think I'm at the size where I can wrestle either way. And if I have my choice, I would rather wrestle with the bigger guys. But, um...I feel that I can compete with them and, um...like I said if they had, um...if the division isn't, uh...isn't really even in existence. So it's kind of hard to say, you know.

Jeff: Hey Christian, when Edge was on the show, he said, and I say all humility aside, I thought that was match of the year. What do you think?

Christian: Um. Yeah. If it wasn't, I think it would be right up there. Um. All of us worked really hard in that match and I love working with the Hardy Boyz, and I think that both teams bring out the best in each other, and every time we are in the ring something special seems to happen with those guys. We just click, and, um, you know I would like to see it as, um...I'm happy that a lot of people did vote it match of the year. But if it wasn't, there was a lot of great matches and I know it's right there with them anyways. So...

Jeff: Christian, what has the locker room been like in the WWF since the Radicals came in?

Christian: Oh, it's been, uh, the same as always. You know, we have a great locker room. All the guys get along. It's really professional. And, uh, they just...a lot of the guys knew them anyway from…crossed their paths before. And, um, I have never met any of them and they all seem to be very nice guys, and, um, I have been watching all of them work and I look forward to, um, I have actually already had a chance to work with Dean a couple of times. And I have enjoyed it both times, and, um, and I'm looking forward to wrestling them more in the future. So...

Dean: You've gotta admit one thing, the dressing room has gotten just a little bit better since I've been there.

Christian: That's true. [laughing] A little funnier.

Jeff: Dean, what kind of advice could you offer to a young talent like Christian?

Dean: Stay where you are at and don't ever go to work for the other company.

Jeff: What about that, Christian? Have you ever thought about going overseas? Maybe compete in the Super J?

Christian: Actually, I've been fortunate enough that I have done two tours of Japan. And, um...I had a great time when I was there. I loved it. And I would love to go back again some time.

Jeff: Who did you work with in Japan?

Christian: I worked for a small group there called New Tokyo Pro. It's just a small group. They were open for a while then Edge and I both went down and we teamed down there as well just before he started on television with WWF. And we, uh...did a tag tournament one time we went, and, uh, worked some singles. Stuff like that. So we had a good time. It was cool. I always wanted to work there, and I'm glad I got a chance to do it. And I really hope that I can get back there again sometime before my career is over.

Jeff: Christian, I don't want to ask you to think of the opponent for your last match because I think is too far off in distance. But what if you had the opportunity to book yourself the perfect opponent, like say for a WrestleMania match coming up, if you had it to pick someone you could five star match with, who would that be?

Christian: Um. Coming up? Sure. I think that uh...Edge and I would be a pretty interesting match.

Jeff: Are you saying that or booking that?

Christian: [laughs] Saying it probably would be.

Jeff: That is a rumor out there that we are going to see Edge verses Christian at WrestleMania this year.

Christian: I don't know if it will be this year, but um, I'm quite sure that it may happen in the future. I don't know. But um, I wouldn't think it would be this soon anyway.

[Malenko leaves.]

Jeff: Our guest is Christian from the World Wrestling Federation. Christian, thanks so much for staying up late on the eve of the No Way Out pay-per-view. You excited about tomorrow?

Christian: Yeah, I am. I'm very excited actually. It should be a great show from start to finish. It should be a good main event anyway. The Hell in the Cell should be good.

Jeff: Oh yeah. Scary.

Christian: The show’s going to be really good.

Jeff: What are you looking for in that main event, Christian?

Christian: Pardon me?

Jeff: What are you looking for from the main event tomorrow night?

Christian: I don't know what to expect. That's the thing, when you know Mick Foley is going into a match like that, you don't know what to expect. I mean, he surprises you every time. That's what I'm looking forward to seeing. What the hell he's going to do.

Jeff: Have you guys worked on your match yet with The Hardy Boyz?

Christian: No. No.

Jeff: Are you a little frustrated? I mean. You and Edge have been working with The Hardyz in some form or another, either teaming with them or facing off against them, since basically last April. Uh, does it get frustrating at all thinking, man, I wish I could just work somebody else for a while?

Christian: No. We kind of went off on our own...like...different paths there for a little while and it just kind of came back together at the end of the road, I guess. But, no, I love working with those guys. And, um, like I said before, during the show we just seem to bring out the best in each other. And uh, the fans can't seem to get enough of it. You know, I mean, they don't seem bored by the fact that we've worked so much that they just...I think our goal is to, um, give them something different every time we go out there. And, um, make them think, "God these guys put on such a great match last time, what are they going to do this time to entertain us?" You know? That's what we look for. It's all about entertaining the fans. We just want to, um...uh...give them the best we have ever time we get into the ring. And the four of us all click...and, um...when we get into the ring together. I'm looking forward to it.

Jeff: Yeah, don't worry about who you're in there with, just keep delivering that high work rate. Let's go to the phones. Frank is in Markum. Frank, say hi to Christian from the World Wrestling Federation.

Frank: Hey Christian.

Christian: What's up Frank? How you doing?

Frank: Not bad. You?

Christian: Um...I'm tired. I'm alright though.

Jeff: It has been a long day for Christian.

Frank: You've already answered my question about Japan, so I'm falling back on plan B.

Jeff: Alright. Hit'em.

Frank: I want to know about your stint in Pennsylvania and ECW leagues. Are you looking forward to rekindling the feud with Reckless Youth when he debuts?

Christian: I haven't really had a feud with Reckless Youth. Actually, we did kind of, um...I've wrestled against them a couple of times. I can't really say it was a feud, and I had a couple of good matches with them. Basically, we were actually together, we did like, uh, a group kind of thing and, um, PCW, Pennsylvania Championship Wrestling, where it was myself, Edge, Reckless, and a couple of other guys, and we, uh, had a group there. So basically I've worked with them not really against them. I wrestled against them a couple times, but mostly with them. But he's a good guy and a good worker. A good high flyer. It'll be cool.

Jeff: Since we are talking about the old days of Christian Caged, last week on the program we had Joey Legend in the studio, and Joey brought a whole stack of photos in. And somewhere in that pile. Man! First of all we found some priceless ________ pictures, and I found a great picture of young Jason Reso working over Jackal Don Callas

Christian: Ooh...

Jeff: Callas in a pair of tighty tighty little pink tights.

Christian: Those are Billy Gunn tights.

Jeff: Now I have never seen Callas work. What was that like?

Christian: What was it like to work with him?

Jeff: Yeah, what is he like in the ring? I've never seen him.

Christian: Um. [Chuckles]

Jeff: Be honest.

Christian: He's good. He's really good on the mic, everybody knows that by now. He's a good worker. I don't really know how to describe him. Every time I've been in the ring with him, I had a good match. I had a good time. I had a lot of fun. And, uh, I wrestled him an awful lot. We did, um...a whole tour, uh...their grand prix wrestling one summer, and for a month straight, um...Edge and I worked with him and Rick Martel, and we had great matches with them every night. It was a lot of fun.

Jeff: Hey, Christian. We have to take a quick break. Can you stick around and take a couple more calls? I know you're really tired. Is that cool?

Christian: Yeah, no problem.

Jeff: I'm Jeff Marek along with Big Daddy Donnie. Our special guest from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. I love saying that. Jay Reso also know as Christian from the World Wrestling Federation. Back after this.

[Break]

Jeff: Welcome back to the program. It's The LAW, live audio wrestling. I'm Jeff, he's Donnie, our special guest from the World Wrestling Federation, Christian, on the eve of the No Way Out pay-per-view. Hey, have you heard from the Dudleys there Christian? Are you impressed at how fast they've gotten over in the World Wrestling Federation?

Jeff: Christian...are you with us?

Christian: They've got some real good old fashion heel heat. I think.

Jeff: Oh isn't it great.

Christian: That's they only way to describe it. They're getting over good. The're good workers. It's good to see them...and, um...they get great heel reaction every time they come out and they work hard. That's great.

Jeff: I'm not going to lie to you. I was thinking that when they came in, it was sorta going to be like Public Enemy all over again.

Donnie: Really?

Jeff: Another tag team that entered the WWF from ECW, I figured they'd give them a week or two of matches, see how it went and drop the ball, but they have really given the opportunity...

Christian: Well, with all due respect to, you know, Public Enemy, I think the Dudley Boys are little more talented...

Jeff: Oh sure.

Donnie: A little more.

Christian: ...than they are. So, that's just a...being nice.

Jeff: Paul Heyman is a genuous. To get those guys over. To get Public Enemy...let's go back to the phones. I don't want to talk about Public Enemy. Manny is in Mississauga. Manny, say hi to Christian.

Manny: Hey Christian.

Christian: Hey, what's going on Manny? How you doing?

Manny: I'm doing great. It seems to me that Edge seems to get all the attention from the fans, especially the girls. Do you feel that you are in Edge's shadow at all? Oh, and the Ladder Match was like the best match I've ever seen. I must have like jumped four or five times...

Christian: Oh, thank you. I appreciate it.

Jeff: What about that, Christian? Shadow of Edge?

Christian: Um. Well, actually I try not to look at it like that. You know what I mean. Um. The way I see it is...um...he was brought in before I was, and he came in with vignettes and he came in as a singles wrestler. So he was already seen and viewed by the audience as a singles commodity. Whereas when I came in, I came in with Gangrel, and then I was a part of the Brood, and then when the Brood split up I'm with Edge. So really I haven't had a chance to be seen as a singles competitor yet, and, you know, so that doesn't make me jealous. It doesn't get me upset. It doesn't bother me. People say...oh, he gets all the attention. That is just the way I see it. Is that...that's the way he was brought in, and that, um, he has been seen a little more as a singles person....or, uh...wrestler than I am. That's just the way...you know, like I said, it doesn't help anything to get jealous or anything like that. It doesn't bother me. I know what I can do, and the time is going to come where are going to have to go our own ways and then, um, that will be my time to show that I'm not in anybody's shadow.

Jeff: Yeah, I hope you get more singles matches because that theme music of your's is rocking.

Christian: Yeah, it is cool.

Donnie: Never mind the work rate is harder in singles matches.

Jeff: Yeah, but I'm a little mark. So I gotta talk about his music. It's on the CD, but we never get to hear it on television. That's what stinks. Adam is in Aurora. Hey Adam.

Adam: What's up?

Jeff: This isn't Adam Copeland is it?

Adam: No.

Jeff: Sorry about that.

Christian: What's going on, Adam?

Adam: Hey. I was just wondering if you would rather fight singles or tag team?

Christian: Right now I'm having a lot of fun doing the tag team. The tag team division right now is as hot as its ever been. There are so many great teams and such a competitive division right now. I'm having a lot of fun doing that, and I really would love to get a run with the tag titles. I think Edge feels the same way. Um...it's kind of our dream since we were kids to, um...you know, one day we're going to be tag team champions. To actually have that dream come true would be pretty cool. So I think we would both like to do that. But, you know, inevitably, you know, we both have our own agendas and both realize that one day we're both going to have to go our own way and, um...but for right now, I'm pretty content doing this. And then when the time comes to go singles, that's fine, and I'm looking forward to that challenge to.

Jeff: If you have just joined us, our guest is Christian from the World Wrestling Federation. Make sure to check out No Way Out tomorrow night on pay-per-view available on viewer's choice. Let's go back to the phones. Anthony is in Lindsay. Anthony, say hi to Christian.

Anthony: Hey.

Christian: Hey, what's going on?

Anthony: Hey, uh I'd like to know who your favorite, uh, wrestler to work with in WWF?

Christian: Oh man. There is so many great guys to work with. I love working with The Hardy Boyz. They're my favorite.

Jeff: Outside of them?

Christian: Outside of them. Um. Uh, God, there is just so many good guys...you know what? I haven't had a lot of opportunity, would love to work with X-Pac. And really...I have had a couple of matches against him, but I haven't really had a chance. They've been like tag matches - six man tags. I haven't really had a chance to really get in there and really do a whole lot with him. I would love to go in there and just have a singles match with him or something and have some time to do it. That would be great.

Jeff: Last summer we had D'Lo Brown on the show. He referred to you as the most underrated wrestler in the entire company.

Christian: That was nice of him.

Jeff: He was putting you over big time. [laugh] Uh, who would you say would be the underrated heros in the WWF right now?

Christian: Um.

Jeff: The guys who just don't get any ink at all but they've got the work rate and they've got the whole thing going on? You know Funaki and Taka Michinoku?

Christian: Those guys are both great wrestlers. I've wrestled both of them fairly recently. I had good matches with both of them. God, I don't know, cuz right now it seems that, um, everybody's kinda finding their place. And everybody seems to be getting over really well no matter where you are on the card or where you are in the show. Everybody's getting a reaction when they come out, and that's the main thing, is for everybody to be over. It seems that, um...it's a hard thing to say.

Jeff: Are you happy with your spot right now?

Christian: Yeah, I think I've elevated. Um, I think the ladder match definitely helped me elevate. Um, and before that when I was in the Brood, I think I was definitely viewed as maybe being the third member of that team. I wasn't getting as much ring time as the other two, but when we broke up, I definitely got to be in the ring more, and I got to prove myself and then, um, and then with the help of the ladder match and, um, great matches we had on the road on house shows with The Hardy Boyz, and the Outlaws and teams like that, I think its elevated...um...I think I've elevated up a little bit and, um, maybe each year...like just progress and elevate a little higher. And just set small goals for myself to go out to do that. I think that's pretty realistic.

Jeff: What is the latest with Gangrel and Luna? We know that Luna got released from her contract last week. What's the latest been in news?

Christian: What do you mean?

Jeff: Well, is Gangrel sticking around? What's happening?

Christian: Yeah. I don't think, as far as I know, um, you know that's…I don't know exactly what happened with her. You know, like I said...it's really none of my business what happened to her or anything like that. I really don't know what happened there. And, um, as far as I know, yeah, he's planning on coming to work every day and working hard as he always does. He's a great wrestler and a great guy.

Jeff: What we were talking about with the most underrated guys, and he was one of guys that would spring to mind...

Christian: Yeah, he is actually one of the guys that came to my mind. I think he is pretty underrated. I think that what he has is...when he's focused, he's one of the better guys there.

Jeff: Christian, the last time I saw you face to face, you had that match with Kurt Angle. We talked about what a hot match that was. He is so can't miss, don't you think?

Christian: Yeah, Chris is. Chris is a great guy. He is just a natural. Actually, its funny, I had his first match ever with him. And, um...this is when I was going to the training camps...um....the summer of '98. He had only been training for about three weeks. We were doing...uh...a small show in Massachusetts about maybe three or four hundred people, and he was like oh god I'm so nervous. I'm like oh, just relax. You know how wrestlers are, like me the old grizzled vet I am. [laugh] I'm like, oh just relax. We had a great match. And it was a lot of fun. He still brings it up sometimes about how I kept him calm and stuff like that. We joke about it. I think you're right. I think he's a can't miss. He's a great talent. He's hilarious. I'm like...I love him. He's like...when he wins, I pop every time he wins a match just cause the way he celebrates after a victory. It's great.

Jeff: Hey, you old grizzled veteran, we got to let you go. Thanks a lot for staying up late with Christian.

Christian: Sorry I was a little tired and a little buzzed maybe, a little monotone or something. We'll have to do it again. I'll be more lively.

Jeff: We will get fully caffeinated and get you on the mic. Thanks a lot for joining us.

Christian: Thanks guys. I'll talk to you soon.
