ODE TO LAURA By ... Steve Lucky

MIRROR

As I gaze into the mirror,
I see my own reflection gazing back at me.
Though not the messiest person around,
Plenty of room exists for improvement.
My hair needs coming as it usually does.
Someday I should get it get it cut,
But it will require taking the time and effort
To get the job done.
Even though I still look young for my age,
The reality of me being in my thirties
Is starting to creep into my facial features.
Fourty will be here before I know it.
Then I can say I look good for fourty,
If I will only take the time and effort to get my hair cut.
My thick red hair is probably my most noticable feature.
Blue or green eyes, depending on who you ask
Are there to keep the face in place.
Teeth kept white by brushing
And the occasional use of whitening strips,
Stay hidden most of the time
Due to a closed mouth.
Currently my physical features
Hide fact I was once overweight,
Yet I know I have to keep an eye
On my steadily gaining weight
Before it shoots up again.
Personal style can be seen in my movement
As I continue to gaze at myself in the mirror.
Seeing the moving person gazing back at me.
My person style is
Both my most loved and my most hated feature,
Not only by others but also by myself.
Like most people,
Things could be better but they could also be worse.
Future bodies and future minds
Are shaped in the present,
Just like my present image
Is the result of things I have done in the past.
