DISTANT

As distance increases, it becomes harder to see
What the other one is trying to be.
Details become sketchy that should be made clear
Until the other person is near.
If two people grow too far apart,
How can one know what is in the other's heart?
Time is needed for one to realize
Not everyone is going to be wise.
Sensitive people try to stay close
Making sure they get their daily dose
Of personal contact needed to maintain
Close proximity with others for as long as they remain.
Personal contact can sometimes be broken.
For many years hardly a word is spoken.
Everyone can not possibly stay near
Among limited resources and ever present fear.
Being distant should not lead to danger.
Staying distant keeps everyone a stranger.
Nearness should win out in the end.
Distance will not stop a friend.
