Even the dominant feature of sunlight
Can not light a landscape forever.
Fading light shows the sun has lost the fight.
Ties with this area it has to sever.
One of the most beautiful times of the day
Arrives just before darkness reestablishes itself.
Low in the sky the sun casts its final ray
Which will not return for any amount of wealth.
Daytime creatures have exhausted their powers.
Sky colors darken as the sun departs.
People reflect back on previous hours
Including what is found in their eyes, minds, and hearts.
Nocturnal animals awake.  Their activity has just begun.
From the resting places they emerge ready for action.
Late night jobs may not sound fun,
But their importance can give workers great satisfaction.
