Less than a second is all it takes
For everything to drastically change.
Unless a conscious effort one makes
To be within acceptable range
Of events that could come at any time.
All details are blocked by static.
If one has to swim or climb,
The path will not be automatic.
Right from the start
One should take the time to prepare
With everything inside the heart
So one can be more than dimly aware
All it takes it an instant
For the instant to be gone.
Only while the battle is still distant
Is there any hope of it being won.
Less than a second is in between
Winning and losing or life and death.
Not even the best machine
Can keep up with unexpected human breath.
