After years of hiding
One may feel the time is right
To try to reach the surface
And once again see daylight.
This is not as simple
As it may first appear.
What one used to hide behind
Keeps the view from being clear.
The things one used to hide from
May have only grown.
Fear of the mysterious
Beaten only by fear of the known.
One can not be a hero
Hiding underneath a bed.
It takes time to reach the surface,
Shortened when kind words are said.
