SHADES OF GREY
By ... Steve Lucky
When a child is learning what is right
Extreme examples of black and white
Are taught to teach the child how to behave.
Even the teacher does not know
In what direction they should go
When first asked about the shades of grey.
New ideas come with age
To better handle feelings of rage.
Behind it all there is a lasting pain.
The childhood world of simplicity
Lacks the type of elastisity
Desperately needed to handle shades of grey.
Right and wrong are now unknown.
The former child is now full grown
And unable to find the proper place.
Heading in a new direction
Can lead to misleading affection.
All that can be found are shades of grey.
To help the good but not the bad
In the end will make one sad
This is really not the path to take.
For there exists in all our minds
Good and bad of many kinds.
What remains are merely shades of grey.
