PILOT

They turned to her, the pilot, the one in charge
Of a flight that just might end in disaster.
During the storm they slowed to a crawl
Because they dared not go any faster.
Experts gave her conflicting warnings
About the storm that caught them by surprise.
Her crew prepared for what could happen
If the already fierce winds continued to rise.
Lightening struck, disabling one of the engines,
Leaving just three on which to rely.
Simulations of landing on only one engine
Was something the crew was required to try.
She was still in control of the plane
Facing the worst storm of her career.
Through dangerous winds, horrible lightening,
Continuous rain, and passenger fear.
Mercifully the mysterious storm that began
Just as mysteriously stopped.
Passengers, crew, and pilot alike
Hoped the storm would never be topped.
