Sometimes we try to destroy
What we do not understand
And try to scare off anyone
Who might be a threat
To our authority or our reputation.
We are not kind to each other
As often as we should be.
We seem to get too wrapped up
In our own problems
To notice what the other person is doing.
To change things I must start with myself,
The person that I know best.
I must open my eyes
And see what is truly going on.
Then, and only then,
Can I remind others to do the same.
Maybe the changes I cause
Will not be tremendous or spectacular,
But I know it will make a difference.
