Field Trip to Hillcrest Orchards

We will be going on this field trip on November 1st. It starts at 11:30 A.M. It sounds like it will be a great field trip! Hope you can join us!

Where: Hillcrest Orchards in Ellijay
When: Monday, November 1st. The tour starts at 11:30 A.M.
Cost: $4.00 per person for the tour.
Car Pooling: If you want to car pool or follow each other there, we will meet at my house (in Mableton) at 9:00 A.M.

• NATURE TRAIL & ENCHANTED FOREST: A walking trail through the forest and along the creek filled with educational facts about trees & wildlife. Twenty different scenes from Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales make learning fun.
• FROM COW TO YOU: An educational dairy segment about the process of milk production and nutrition. A brand new building with milk products and nutrition facts includes an old fashioned corn sheller with samples for each child to feed the cow, an old fashioned butter churn where we will demonstrate the process of butter making, and practice cows to demonstrate the process of milking before they get to the real thing: Buttercup...the official Hillcrest Cow...a real live Jersey dairy cow...each child will get a chance to squeeze the milk from her themselves!
• THE BIG CHICKEN: A mini chicken house complete with nests, glass incubator with chickens hatching from eggs, displays exhibiting processes of the poultry industry from eggs to nuggets, chicken nutrition, and ending with the favorite of all children, holding a baby chick.
• WAGON RIDE: Ride through the orchard, beside the pond with giant catfish and through the woods featuring the Land of Oz.
• PETTING FARM: Our most popular activity involves feeding and petting baby farm animals (note: animals are not in cages, this is a hands on experience.)
• Each tour participant receives: 1 free apple, 1 free cup of apple cider (pasteurized) and a coloring book.
• Picnic facilities and outdoor toilets are available.
• Glass observation bee hive inside the market.
• Playground with 50 foot slide

• GRANDMA'S KITCHEN: Grandma's kitchen is always open with homemade fried apple pies and our famous apple cider doughnuts. Large picture windows allow you to watch them being cooked.
