The War Experiences of Sampson Beason

My Great-great-great-grandfather was Sampson Beason. He served in the Charleston Battalion beginning in February 1863. His unit was consolidated with another in September 1863 to form the 27th South Carolina Infantry Regiment. My ancestor saw action in and around Fort Sumter in 1863-1864 before being transferred to Petersburg to assist in General Robert E. Lee's defense of Richmond in 1864. In 1865, after months of trench warfare, Sampson Beason's regiment was sent to Wilmington to serve as part of the defense of the last remaining Confederate port city. He was captured in combat shortly thereafter.

(More detailed information is forthcoming.)
