'History of the Southern Marches'...

"The Challenge for the Chalice of Chivalry was initiated to perpetuate unity and esprit between the holder of the chalice and the challengers seeking to gain possession of the chalice...This is a team competition bash under the following rules:

1. Competition is limited only to teams formed by (and entered under the name of) a specific Shire. Shires may field unlimited number of teams from whatever organic or mercenary assets they can muster.

2. Team composition will be limited to a total of TEN *skill points* under the following rating schedule...Knight=4, Squire=3 and Fighters (authorized or not)=2."

Originally a double-elimination tournament, 'The Challenge of the Chalice' is now a round-robin list where shire teams face each other once. A team may substitute fighters so long as its point total equals 10 or less for each fight.

Oldenfeld from Trimaris is presently the only non-consortium shire to participate in 'The Challange.' They fought Dragonfly Marsh and Firedrake during the first tournament; losing both fights.

Atlantians and other Meridians have served as mercenary allies on shire teams. Their influence, however, has not been strong; "proving...it still takes cohesive team participation to win these fighting challenges."
