Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team
The Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team was formed in 1994. The unit is made up of all the department within Chatham County (Pooler PD, Port Wentworth PD, Garden City PD, Thunderbolt PD, Tybee Island PD, City Of Savannah, Chatham County Sheriff's Office, and the Chatham County Police Department. The unit is operated by the Chatham County body of Government, and with the Commander E. Williams (CCPD), AstCom. Lt. K. Porter (SPD), 4 Sergents, 42 Agents, 2 Assistant DA's, and 5 Administrative Assistants.
Chatham County Police Department
In approx. 1907 the Chatham County Police Department was formed by the Chatham County Commission. Today the Department has approx. 140 sworn officers, and approx. 43 civilians The Department was in Command by Chief Bob Oliver, and Ast. Cheif Major D. Buckhaulter (Patrol), and Major I. Pennington (Communications), and Major D. Jenkins (CID). The Department in 1998 moved into a new state of the art building. The Forensics Unit is latest Technological Unit in the SouthEast area. The Department was made up of Planning and Research, Communications, Records, Orginized Crime Unit, Criminal Investigations Unit, Marine Patrol, Speed Enforcement Unit, and the Back bone of the Department Patrol. The Department was consolidated in October 2003 by the city of Savannah which was handed over by one of the former Chiefs. The Department is now called the Savannah / Chatham Metropolitain Police Department.
Savannah Police Department
The Savannah Police Department was founded in 1865 with the apointed Chief as General Robert M Anderson and as of 11-1-1865 there was 116 sworn officers. As of this day Chief Dan Flinn (Retired Major from Miami Fla) has employed 450 sworn officers and 140 civilians. Savannah Police has taken the Chatham County Police Department in a merger of the two. The patches at this time still remain to the same until change in the near future. The total consolidation of the two Departments were complete in Junuary 2005.
