Galaxy Class Information:
The Galaxy Class Starship was Starfleets answer for a new class of exploratory vessels. The Galaxy Class was intended as a replacement for the century old Excelsior Class Starships and the sixty year old Ambasador Class Starships. The Galaxy Class is also the first starship design that allows for saucer separations and re-docking without the need for a starbase layover. The Galaxy Class starship is among the largest class in starfleet. Not only has the Galaxy Class established itself as an explorer, but it has also been an integral part of Starfleet armadas in the battle to retake Deep Space Nine and the recent invasion of Cardassia. Presumably, many more than the origional order for 12 Galaxy Class Starships have been built, considering there are several Galaxy Wings in Starfleet. Note, that there are 2 variations of the Galaxy Class (though they are not substantial). One is the origional design, like the Enterprise-D. The other variation adds two phaser strips running along the Z axis of each warp nacelle, such as the U.S.S. Odyssey and Venture.
