Defiant Class Information:

The Defiant Class Starship Design Project was spawned by the Wolf 359 incident, in which Starfleet's vessels proved to be of little match to the Borg ships. The Defiant Class Starship was to be Starfleet's first true 'Warship'. Perhaps one of the most notable starships in the fleet, the U.S.S. Deifant has retained its NX registry prefix as it remains a testbed for cutting edge technologies. Recently, the origionally commissioned U.S.S. Defiant was disabled by Breen energy dampanneing weapons and was subsequently destroyed. In response to the distinguished service of the Defiant, the Defiant Class U.S.S. Sao Paolo was recommissioned as U.S.S. Defiant. The renaming of a ship in replacement of one lost is an honor that has been bestowed upon only a handfull of ships in all of Starfleet's history.
