A thousand thanks for this translation go to Christophe Lepigeon. Cheers mate!

As I was surfing the Internet today, I came across a recent article on Magdalena. It is in French. It appeared on the Wednesday issue of 'Les dernières nouvelles d'Alsace'. The newspaper covers the Strasbourg event quite extensively. You can visit their Web site at: http://www.dna.fr
If you understand French and wish to find the article, click on the 'Archives' section ('recherche par mots-clés') and type Maleeva. Anyway, the article is titled 'Sous le charme de Magdalena' and is very interesting. There is also a picture of Magdalena.

Here is a brief summary:

On Tuesday morning, Magdalena went to the François-Truffaut high school to talk with 14 and 15 year olds and act as their English teacher for one day. Mary Joe Fernandez was supposed to do it, but then her first round match was postponed. Magdalena immediately accepted to replace Fernandez. According to the journalist, all the kids completely fell under her spell (hence the title). Maggie declared: "I do my best to appreciate as many people as I can, to be tolerant with them, never to judge them. If you do that, then people act in the same way towards you". This should teach Hingis, Kournikova and the Williamses a lesson or two!
Not only did maggie answer the kids' questions, but she also asked them questions. The journalist writes: "at times, you would have thought that these were a group of young people exchanging points of view". Magdalena revealed that she likes rap music (oh dear), and that she knows the French bands IAM and NTM. Why you may ask. Simply because her Bulgarian boyfriend, Lubomir, who spent a few years in Nice, is now a student at the university of Lyon. At times, she even addresses the children in French, a language which she apparently masters quite well!
Magdalena talks about the tough year that she's been through, her first years on the tour, her two sisters, her dreams, doping and the war in Kosovo. She mentions that it feels a bit weird to come back after such a long layoff as it is something she had never experienced before. And she knows that people expect even more from her than they did from her sisters. She says that she loves Manuela and Katerina's children and love spending time with them, adding that she wants a big family! She says: "I want lots of children. One day, I would like to take care of children who have lost their parents". She also wishes to go back to university once her career is over and take time to visit all the countries in which she has played.
Apparently, the children loved Magdalena so much that they asked the tournament director if he could schedule her next match after school so that they could go and support her!
I tell you, Maggie is a class act!

Christophe
