This website is dedicated to information about SONAR.
SONAR is an acronym for Sound Navigation And Ranging. It involves a system which emits ultrasonic pulses using either a submerged radiating device such as a transducer, or the use of "clicks" by sea animals, such as whales and dolphins. In the transducer case, a microphone, or hydrophone, listens to the reflected pulses after the echoes return. This sound allows a person to decipher the object's approximate distance, size and location.

In the animal's case it is called echolocation and involves the reflection of a beam of clicks back to the animal. The animal is then able to decipher the echoes which tells them approximate texture, speed and direction of the object, which is important for hunting, communication and protection against enemies.
