JEFF'S WORK
I began my career with the State of Georgia in 1986 as a Correctional Officer. In 1989 I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. I was assigned to the Training and Employee Development Section in late 1989. In 1990 I was promoted to Public Safety Training Instructor I. I served as an institutional trainer until December 1991, when I was Promoted to P.S.T.I. II, and accepted a position as an Instructor at the Georgia Corrections Academy, located on the campus of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.
As an Academy Instructor, I was responsible for delivering training in the Basic Correctional Officer Training program. B.C.O.T. trains approximatley 2000 new Correctional Officers a year. During the four week training program the "Cadets" study, eat, sleep, and recreate on the campus only returning to their homes on the weekends. The subject matter taught during the program is diverse, ranging from Firearms Training and Defensive Tactics, to Human Diversity and Interpersonal Communication Skills.
In 1993 I was promoted to P.S.T.I. III and assigned firearms training as my primary responsibility. As a Fire Fighter, I also assisted in the Fire Safety Training Program.
In June of 1998, I accepted my current assignment as Curriculum Development and Instructor Training Coordinator. In this position I have the responsibility of developing and updating Basic Training lesson plans as well as the yearly In-Service training program, and coordinating all the Department's Instructor Training courses.
