Garden Hideaways

I belive that every garden should be, or should have a hideaway section. If you have very close neighbors you cannot help but have a not-so-very-private garden. Barriers are the choice, but who would want a brick wall in their face? Here are some ideas for neighbor-friendly barriers.

BUSHES--- The simple act of planting a large bush (or line of them), such as a lilac, will give you a lovely-on-all-sides barrier. There are many such plants available 'on the market.'

LIVING WALLS--- I have found that this method of creating a barrier is the easiest. First construct a fence. This can be made of a few wood or metal posts with wire strung across and secured, or even chicken wire (with supports). The plants are then placed or planted beneath. These plants should be climbers such as sweet pea, morning glory, honeysuckle, and others of that nature. Do not use climbing rose. It does not truly climb, and needs support ties. Ivy will work in some cases, but not all.
