The Red Fox
scientific name "Vulpes Vulpes" means "fox fox."
Red foxes are scarcer in southeast Georgia than their Grey Fox relatives.Red fox prefer forest edges, farm land,and sand ridges for their hunting territory. They usually hunt alone at night . They are opportunist, and will eat whatever is available. Their favorite food is field mice, rats, rabbits, and small birds.They will hunt wide ranges of up to 3 or 4 miles . An adult Red fox can weigh up to 15 pounds. They prefer undergound dens and are good at digging .However, they cannot climb trees like the Grey fox.
