The largest concentration of alligators ,in south Georgia is found in and around the boundaries of The Okefenokee swamp.However , they can also be found in the rivers, ponds and lakes. They Hibernate in the colder months of winter, reappearing in the spring.The alligator is the largest reptile in North America.The Female ,after mating, builds a nesting mound near water. She lays somewhere between 20 to 60 eggs and covers them with grass, sticks and mud. she guards them until they hatch  some 60 to 70 days later.Adult alligators range in length from 6 to 15 feet. (scientific name - alligator mississippiensis)
