The Southern Flying Squirrel
Glaucomys volans
The Southern Flying Squirrels are smaller than their cousins the grey squirrels.Unlike other squirrels , they are nocturnal- venturing out from their nest only at night. They cannot truly fly- but glide through the air using wide flaps of skin on its sides.Their head &body measures from 5" to 6" with a 3" to 4" tail.
