Slingo Page

Have you ever played Slingo? It's a game on AOL that's a cross between slots and bingo that lasts twenty turns. Meaning you have twenty sets of five numbers, each set has one number under each column. if the number at the bottom is in the column above, you click the number in the column. The object is to fill the card, upon which you get a buncha bonus points. There are up to ten other people that will be playing against you in the same Slingo room as you. Instead of spinning numbers at the bottom, you can also spin a Devil, which takes away half your points. Sometimes when you spin a Devil a chareb shoots him in the butt and you are saved, and your points are fine. Sometimes you also spin wild jacks, which are good because you can pick any number in the column. You can also spin a free spin to use at the end of the game when the last four turns start to cost you points. The last thing you can spin is a gold coin, which gives you 1000 points. When you fill a row up, down, or diagonally you get 1000 points and every number you get in a column is worth 200. Well, I am officially addicted to this game! But you might not understand my explanation, so here is how the game is defined by the SlingoMasters:
The object of Slingo is to accumulate the highest number of points by trying to cover all the numbers within 20 spins. A game can be played by one player or up to 10 players.
At the start of a Slingo game all players are given the same card with 25 numbers (five columns of five numbers) Under the numbers are five wheels corresponding to each of the five columns of numbers. Each spin you take produces a unique set of numbers and game icons in the five wheels.
On each of the 20 spins, you match your numbers and Jokers appearing in the wheels with a number in the corresponding column above. A correct match covers the number. The wheels also display game icons (Gold Coin, Free Spin, and Devil).
Chat is available during any Slingo game until you select the QUIT button. The Slingo game chat allows you and any other players in your game to chat with each other.You can enter your chat messages by directly typing into the chat message field and then pressing the "Enter" key.
A game ends after 20 spins.If one or more players achieve a Full Card in less than 20 spins, all other players continue to play until they fill their card or have taken the maximum 20 spins. A Full Card does not always guarantee the highest score.
When the red button flashes TAKE SPIN, you have 10 seconds to click on the button. If you don't take your spin within the 10 seconds, you lose that turn.
Using the mouse you cover any numbers matching the spin results appearing on the five wheels. You must complete a spin in a maximum of 30 seconds. Each covered number earns 200 points.
A Joker, or wild jack, appearance allows you to click on only one uncovered number in the corresponding column above that Joker.
A Gold Coin appearance awards 1000 points to your score.
A Devil appearance deducts one-half of the points from your score.
A Cherub appearance prevents the Devil from taking one half of your points.
A Slingo occurs when five successive numbers are covered either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. There are 12 possible Slingos, and each Slingo earns 1,000 points.
After spin number 16, you must buy each additional spin 17 - 20 with your points or an accumulated Free Spin. If you do not have enough points to buy that spin or a Free Spin to use, you will not be able to continue in the game.
If you are on AOL, try Slingo for yourself by going here On this screen you have a choice of Regular or Express Slingo. In Regular all players have 30 seconds to click on everything they spun that is in their columns. If there is a number you got that you don't see and you don't click it, then everyone else has to wait the whole thirty seconds for the next spin and it is very annoying. It shouldn't take 30 seconds to spin, which is why I recommend Express Slingo where all players have 15 seconds to click everything they spun. Check out the game! And so you don't look stupid and you won't be sitting there not knowing what players are talking about in the game chat above your card, below is a Slingo Lingo Dictionary.
~*sLiNgO DiCTiOnAry*~
These are terms you will see people use a lot is the small chat in the Slingo game. Just so you understand them...
gl = good luck
dd = dumb devil
nn = no numbers (as in they didn't have anything in their columns that they spun)
gc = gold coin
wj = wild jack
wwj = wasted wild jack (as in they spun a wild jack in a column that was already full)
sry = sorry
ty = thank you
thx = thanks
yw = your welcome
fs = free spin
fc = full card
slingoooooooooo = just filled card
wtg = way to go
lp = losing points
csmb = cherub saved my butt
FORKED = He's back :)
pib = pitchfork in butt
tbaa = touched by an angel
nna = no numbers again
welx = your welcome
lol = laughing out loud, or lots of luck
rofl = rolling on the floor laughing\
jk = just kidding
cellingoooooooo = full card from way behind, as in "What a Comeback!"
***If someone enters a five digit number and none of the digits are more than five then they are telling you how many they have to go in each column. Like if someone put 22301, then they have two in each of the first two columns to go, 3 in the third, none in the fourth, and 1 in the fifth.
There is also an AOL chat room called Slingo Chat that always makes for an awesome conversastion! :) Much better than WWW chats. No, it is not the one inside the game, it is another one... on AOL only, remember! To get to it click here.
Check out the Slingo Official Website for a better explanation of the game and more stuffs!
Each month their is a Dear Joker question the Joker himself about Slingo... here is this month's Joker Q & A.
Q. I have heard that there is a Slingo CD Rom , is it available in stores yet, and is there anything else you can tell me about it ?
A. Yes, there is a Slingo CD Rom, for more information please see the following press release :
Hasbro Interactive Ships America's Favorite Online Game SLINGO
BEVERLY, MA (October 19, 1998) Leading entertainment software publisher Hasbro Interactive has announced that Slingo, the popular online game that has earned millions of loyal fans, is now available on CD-ROM. Slingo debuted on the America Online Games Channel in October 1996 and quickly became the #1 game for the country's largest online service. A unique combination of slots and bingo, Slingo has stolen the hearts of game players with its compelling game play and broad-based appeal.
"Slingo is an irresistible game," said Tom Dusenberry, President of Hasbro Interactive. "Once you start playing, you definitely are drawn into the excitement," Dusenberry added. "We feel that fans of the online version will be instantly drawn to the new variations of game play added in the CD-ROM version."
Play Slingo CD-ROM solo or multi-player with up to six people. You can play the classic version of Slingo and four new game variations. The object of the classic version is to fill in the 5x5 card, or to achieve your highest possible point score, within 20 spins. Players click on the handle with the mouse to spin the five wheels and match the numbers that appear in the card's columns. A match earns 200 points and if you cover 5 matches, vertically, horizontally or diagonally you have made a "Slingo" earning 1,000 points.
In order to feed the appetites of Slingo's die-hard fans, there are four new exciting variations of the classic game. The PC CD-ROM game offers players the option of playing all of the game variations over a modem, LAN, over the Internet through a TCPIP connection and through Hot Seat play in which four players can play together using the same computer. Players can also play the "Duel Slingo" version on Microsoft's Internet Gaming Zone at www.zone.com. Four New Ways to Play
In Super Squares, Classic Slingo takes a new twist, with the addition of randomly placed "super squares". A match made in a super square earns 2,000 points, while a Slingo completed with a super square earns 10,000 points. Giant Slingo introduces a fun new character to the Slingo family - a helpful giant. When he appears in a spin, the Giant waits until all matches are made and then he takes his club to the card causing the wheel to spin again. The Mixed Matrix variation of Slingo scrambles the numbers on the card making it even more challenging to find matches. In the highly competitive Duel Slingo, two players, or a single player and a computer opponent use the same card and take turns competing for the highest score.
Slingo is available for play on the Windows 95 and Windows 98 platforms and has a suggested retail price of $19.95. If you have any questions or comments for the Joker please send them to : SLNG Hans@aol.com. We love to hear from you :)
Until next month - The Joker
Remember the score stats that used to be here? Well, I recently changed my AOL screen name, so all of my Peace184 scores are worthless. Also, unfortunately, I haven't had time to play Slingo even one time on my new screen name! So when I eventually do get up some scores, they will be very puny. Try to contain your laughter.
Thanks,
Erin
Guess that's it for my Slingo Page! Please go back to the Realm.
