"On a Cold and Wintry Night"

C.J. Ingerson
1/4/99

Verse 1
********

Or it need not be
but a summer night
or a rainy day to see
I'll always leave a light.

Verse 2
********

It will be as in the old
just a small candle
one a child might hold
by its little handle.

Verse 3
********

But always my friend
know in my window
found to the very end
this candle will kindle.

Verse 4
********

For friendship is forever
whether here or elsewhere
so you must know never
will this light I not share.

Verse 5
********

I will keep a bright candle
burning in the window now
careful not to mis-handle
to show you the path somehow.

Verse 6
********

Promises like this are kept
for they are not lightly made
so you'll have to learn to accept
someone else your price has paid.

Verse 7
********

I love you more than tomorrow
or any day I've had to live here
you'll never need love to borrow
I'll always try to wipe away your tear.

Verse 8
********

So the candle will always be
just that you may forever know
and for the rest the world to see
my love is to eternity going to flow.

Verse 9
********

Go now on your way in this life
and if you need to rest just today
to for a moment to avoid the strife
"I love you," is all you'll here me say.

Verse 10
********

Thus in the window will this candle be
bringing the light to guide you near
and any others who also need to see
burning brightly so none might fear.
