"When I Was With You"

C.J. Ingerson
1/21/98

Verse 1
********

Fumbling for the answers
and words to flow freely;
like the love poems of old.
Did I say the wrong things
and that is why I'm alone?

Verse 2
********

The fool was never in me;
to tell the truth was all
I knew to say when with
you, but your look said
more than all I could say.

Verse 3
********

Did you misunderstand?
I'm your brother just now
and nothing more can be
for I've stretched the limits
of my ability to speak so.

Verse 4
********

Is it that I'm not here now
and the problems are there;
for is it not between family
Father told us to cure cares
and hold the other in crisis?

Verse 5
********

When I hold your hand to touch,
don't you recognize the brother
who you played and sang with?
I'm just a brother nothing more
to be here to hold and give warmth.

Verse 6
********

My age is endless, the trails forever;
the tears I've shed are like the rain.
It is this pain I feel for another now
when it appears I've said the wrong
thing to someone who is so special.

Verse 7
********

So my sister or brother understand
my love is endless, timeless now;
Tomorrow it'll be here stronger yet,
than any who stand in your way,
when I'm with you to hold your hand.

Verse 8
********

When I say "I love you," I do forever,
not just a moment in time or space.
So if I've said it wrong or out of place;
I'm sorry to have brought you pain.
Now tell me, did I say the wrong thing?

"The Desert Flower"

C.J. Ingerson
1/21/99

Verse 1
********

When the rain was pure
and came forth upon now
the desert strong and sure
bringing it to bloom somehow.

Verse 2
********

For there all along where seeds
planted from many centuries ago
now seen as little children's deeds
with their eyes clear and aglow.

Verse 3
********

Are not our children sparkle bright
like the desert flower which blooms
only when nourished by loves light
amid the deserts thunderous booms.

Verse 4
********

For they like the desert flower need
to be nourished with love and tears
thus they to are like a dormant seed
who need us to protect them from fears.
