"Unicorns"

C.J. Ingerson
1/18/98

Verse 1
********

Where was I to be just today
when I was taken by this perfect
young lady walking on her way
she whispered to me for effect;

Verse 2
********

'I'm off to see the unicorns."
and I said, "Where are they?"
"You mean the real ones?"
"Yes, they're extinct some say."

Verse 3
********

Oh she said, "You are real silly,
the ones I'm to see are in the park."
"Come with me now you willy-nilly."
So she and I, went off on this lark.

Verse 4
********

As we came closer you could hear
the music from long ago in childhood
a pipe-organ with all its notes clear
bringing young and old who understood.

Verse 5
********

Sure enough there the unicorns were
and horses of all kinds, to ride upon
on this carousel with a man saying 'sir
and madam', to all who wanted on.

Verse 6
********

But my little friend wanted only to see
the unicorns in their many colors now
she wanted the make believe to be
and as she climbed aboard somehow;

Verse 7
********

Right she ran to the first she found
and asked me politely to her lift
as she couldn't do it from the ground,
so I lifted and they were a perfect fit.

Verse 8
********

Was it yesterday she had said to me,
"I'm off to see the unicorns just now."
I remember how happy she seemed to be;
all this coming back to me today somehow.
