" And then it was too late."

C.J. Ingerson
3/4/99

Verse 1
********

Wanted too plant the North field
but had tomorrow and the fence
needed mending; plus selling that old shield
and I really needed it for the re-enactment defense.

Verse 2
********

Really was going to get flowers and be on time
but somehow the stories the guys at work
got better and better and I fell way behind;
sometimes I feel like such a big jerk.

Verse 3
********

The ball game started at 5PM today?
I was sure I wrote it down for 6PM here.
I know I better go see the kids, what to say?
You mean they aren't around, dear?

Verse 4
********

Yes, I was going to go I know, I know
why do you harp on me like this so
sometimes you're just like an old crow;
I'm sorry it seems lately words just flow.

Verse 5
********

I really meant someday to read the scriptures
but there were all those other books to read
there is always time to use the ones with pictures.
Anyway we learn the all the stuff at church we need.

Verse 6
********

But the wind and the rain came the day
at hand for the north fields to plow.
I couldn't afford the price for the shield to pay.
Didn't need it for the re-enactment anyhow.

Verse 7
********

The stories being told at work weren't so great
as to now be in a home alone as all are gone
because somehow I always managed to be late;
I didn't know it had been going on so long.

Verse 8
********

You mean the kids and you are leaving to where
how can you say it doesn't matter for Pete's sake
you can't say that I never really took time to care!
Then this morning I woke up I was just too late.
