"Mother, Do I Really Have a Guardian Angel?"

C.J. Ingerson
1/27/99

Verse 1
********

Mother, do I really have a guardian angel?
Washing dishes piled high
I stopped and looked on
my small child with eyes bright
took a towel and wiped my hands
and asked, "Why do want to know?"

Verse 2
********

"Oh," said my child, "I need to know,
for if I have one, what his name is?"
"I wouldn't want to have one without
a name, no that wouldn't be right."
"That is why I want to know, mother."

Verse 3
********

I then took this precious little child
into my arms and hugged so tight,
and asked, "If you know it is a him,
then why are you asking me now
if you have a guardian angel?"

Verse 4
********

"Well, my teacher said to ask you."
"She said only mothers know such
things as whether their children have
guardian angels and such stuff, that
is why I'm asking you now, mother."

Verse 5
********

"Yes my child we all have guardian
angels, though I must admit I never
really thought of mine having a name;
but it does make sense that they must
have names, now doesn't it?" I said.

Verse 6
********

"Oh, mommy I knew you would know
and would answer me now," then pausing
my child pondered a bit and said again,
"Do you think we give them names or
does Heavenly Father give them names?"

Verse 7
********

Now in a quandary I didn't know what to say,
but quickly before I could again answer
my child said, "Mine is named Jesse!"
"How do you that?" I asked quietly now.
"Oh he told me in a dream to call him that."

Verse 8
********

"Did he tell you anything else?" I asked,
"Oh, yes but I'm not to tell, because he
is my guardian angel." "Then why did
you ask me if you had one if you already
knew his name?" (Her reply made me cry.)

Verse 9
********

"Because when I told my friends at school,
they all laughed and told me I was crazy."
"So then I went to my teacher and she told
me to only ask you." "I'm not crazy am I?"
And with tears on my cheeks I said, "No."

Verse 10
********

Now often when I pass my child's room
all alone at play, I hear chattering going
on from within and smile and thank Father
for Guardian Angels for little children who
believe and have unwavering faith in Him.
