Poem is slightly modified from original: cji with permission)

"Hi Dad"

(written for my friend Calli Meador with her permission - cji)
2/11/99

Verse 1
********

You know each year
I fight to figure what to get
even sometimes a tear
my cheek gets wet.

Verse 2
********

I mean you're so much
and you've got mom today
it is hard to compete with such
so maybe in this poem I'll say.

Verse 3
********

I love you so my father now
who saw me and told I'd be his
then you left me behind somehow
then you brought me down to this.

Verse 4
********

I've thought if I were just another boy
we could go outside and play football
or walk and hunt in the woods with joy
I'd let you show me how to animals call.

Verse 5
********

Even now at my age you could see me
receive a mission call to serve with love
you've taught me from Father to see
and helped feel the spirit from above.

Verse 6
********

But instead I'm your daughter and that
to me is really neat for I've you to thank
and mother too, for I can still sit on your lap,
while you kid me and say I'm to big to spank.

Verse 7
********

Yet of course you call to me to see a child
into a woman I've become from your patience
for I love you and this even when I was wild
it was always my wish to be in compliance.

Verse 8
********

But I want you to know right now for today
even though your getting older you're still young
and when you go four wheeling on your way
your daughter wishes you to have a day of fun.
