"Deaf . . .

Verse 1
********

"Deaf . . .

I heard not the warning
which rang forth
from the village square,

Verse 2
********

blind

I saw not the running
of the people
here and there
about the city walls,

Verse 3
*******

lame

I left not where I was
when I finally
felt the spirit
which so long I'd ignored
as fear . . ."

"A rose . .

Verse 1
********

"A rose . . .

is but a token
of beauty
of the softness
of petals
yet the prick
and the sting
of the thorns
must not be forgotten
yet a rose
by name
gives an impression
as we by name
are also known . . ."

"Was . . .

Verse 1
********

"Was . . .
a shadow seen
but not
having no substance
no being
but as a poem
or a work of art
are images
of what one
would be
or have
yet as an image
having no substance
yet value
which is fleeting
as the shadow
we cast . . ."
