"When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes a quest,
Heavenly Father will endow us with great power."
Marlin K. Jensen, Quorum of Seventy

"Just to be Obedient"

C.J. Ingerson
2/27/99

Verse 1
********

What a really hard thing to do
to always be obedient and thus true
to love our Heavenly Father so much
seeking always the gentleness of His touch.

Verse 2
********

When I was young I loved the knights
who road in quests and holy fights.
Yet now when I'm more mature in age
there are days I wish I stayed a page.

Verse 3
********

It was taught to me when I was young
the quest was actually to control the tongue.
Thus when we go about daily to obey
a lot depends on how and what we say.

Verse 4
********

Obedience is always easy to do when alone
with others it's the challenge to cast the first stone.
Competition creates an environment for to murmur,
and to make excuses for our failures to concur.

Verse 5
********

We have to put aside this self which holds us back.
To start to think always of others to get on track.
Then the blessings may be there if we are true.
But they are not reason why obedient we are too.

Verse 6
********

You see we can all be obedient to win the prize
and it was explained to me by one very wise.
If you can't do the right thing for the right reason
at least do the right thing for the wrong reason.

Verse 7
*******

He went on to say, eventually you do the right
because it is right and your shield will be bright.
So don't go seeking the power in this quest
go seeking the Master's blessing as His guest.
