A very good friend of mine lost a grandchild on Tuesday.
The child had been born on Thursday, these are the thoughts which
stemed from my trying to reach through the
space and time to better explain or understand, the
Plan we all voted on, and must endure to complete.

"It Wasn't So Long Ago"
C.J. Ingerson
10/20/98

Verse 1
*******

"We met in courts . . .
above this mortal being
to discuss and plan
to better understand
all that Father
would have us to do.
We met in groups
and spoke at length
of what each covenant
(9) and each sacrifice
would mean for one
then for all of us to make.
Then some would
go off to be alone
with family members
to share this time
which would be held special
sacred in courts above.
For we knew surely
that in the days to come
blessings which would
be hard to understand
by us would have to be
by us the last to come."

Verse 2
********
"Now on this Earth
we learn once more
to cry and remember
when we knew the plan
and the covenants
would be ours to obey.
So each in turn
in this eternal plan
were to fulfill their role
some just to visit
saying, "I love you,"
and then go back again.
As we wonder about the why
or even of the who and how
we must ever remember
we voted on this plan
for some to come to stay
and for others to go away.
The Temple spheres point
high above us now
we've entered into them
holy vows we've made
and though this hurts
are we any less than Brother."
Verse 3
********
"Lest we seem depressed
from love we've barely known
remember this that Father too
loves this little one just gone
far more than all the rest
she has special work to do.
Now a mother and a father
with a room void of light
must remember when
they too voted on this plan
for some to come to stay
and for others to go away.
Love is ours to share
and if not with Father who?
Would we begrudge Him
who bear us all,
if a special one now
He himself wants to hold?
Place aside the mortal view
view this with spiritual eyes
for in the eternities
this is but a moment
if we are but worthy
a twinkling of the eye."
Verse 4
********

"Hasten now to the Temple
and put your garment on,
take hold of the rod
with thy faith in Him
who took upon all else
so you could be.
Forever is not here or now
forever is forever is forever
and a family bound
and sealed need not grieve
that they were blessed
with a special one so born.
Father understands you now
bend your knee to him
and let him know your love
and he will comfort you
for have you paid more
than him who paid for all?"

Verse 5
********

"Hi, I just came . . .
to give a kiss
and then to
say goodbye.
I know you
wanted more
than this,
but I've so
much to do.
You understand
Grandpa gave
you a blessing
and I know
you understand
so don't wait
up for me,
I'm with others
who've also been
to Earth to see
to give a kiss
and then
to Father
to return. . ."

Verse 6
********

"I'll say goodbye . . .
but only for now
you understand
if worthy a hour
a minute, a day
a year, a moment
a twinkling
of the eye,
and we'll
be back together
again forever,
as this was
the promise
and the plan,
a twinkling
of the eye,
and this cannot
be very long at all . . ."

Verse 7
********

"It was nice . . .
how you treated me
and how you had
such pretty dresses
and thing so neat,
but heavens a mighty place
and I've seen from above.
You've others of us
to behold for not all
are allowed to come
and then right away
just up and go.
Father told me
I could not stay
he said a moment
daughter I'll let
you be held
but then you must
return for others
have need of you
and I can not
permit you to stay.
You need not fear
for your family
will always have
you near, more near
than they will ever know
but I will and you will know.
And at times I'll let you go
and visit them,
in summers winds
and at seasons end
when the leaves
begin to fall.
But you are not
for this Earth
just now, you've
other work to do,
so stay a while
visit and be held
for on the morrow
you'll come home
to be with me
until eternity. . ."

Verse 8
********

"Tell Grandmother . . .
how special she is,
I know of her great love
and compassion for you
now and forever.
Hold her for me
tell it is okay
that you can understand
how she wishes and hopes
you'll understand.
Hers is a tender heart
I've seen if from above
to hold you hand
and change your bed
when you weren't well.
She been a mother
and a wife, a companion
to not just a few
but she needs you
just like you needed her.
So hold her close
and say thank you
for raising you right
tell her you understand
the plan was for all.
Kiss her once for me
hold her hand gently
make her know
how much Father
truly loves her so. . ."

Verse 9
********

"Now Grandpa . . .
he's another case
full of love for you
and your mother,
he'll be the strong
one to lean upon
but tell him it's
your mother who
now needs his arms.
You think it strange
that one so small
as me would know
of you and dad,
and of others so,
but I'm glad
you wanted me so.
I've work to do
so don't let me down,
tell grandpa and dad
I'm just a prayer away
and for you my mother
you know I'll never
be very far from you,
for as much as you
loved me, I loved you. . ."

Verse 10
********

"Well Dad . . .
I guess you're last
but it had to be
this way, for you are you
and if I put you first
you'd of wanted
the others comforted
and then have me
return to you,
so to you I come
your little daughter
now high above
forgive me for not
staying longer,
but I could not stay. . ."

Verse 11
********

"And Dad . . .
this you'll need to know
there was nothing
nothing at all
you could've done,
so when you comfort
mom and hold her close
miss me not as
a daughter lost
but simply one who waits.
Can you do this dad
I know you can
tears are okay,
for tears will
help wash the hurt away.
Well I've stayed too long,
Father's calling now,
it's another day
I've lots to do,
but remember this
if you are worthy
I'll be yours forever
and you'll get to
raise me through
eternity when forever
we'll still a family be . . ."

Verse 12
********

"Well goodnight all. . .
Remember,
it wasn't so long ago
when we ran and played
held hands and sang
took walks and talked
knowing of this day,
remember, please remember,
it wasn't so long ago . . ."
