WWF Raw Is War Report
March 6, 2000, from Springfield, MA
With Jim Ross and "King" Jerry Lawler
[Report by Adam Gallegos]
- The show begins with the arrival of Shane McMahon and The Big Show entering the ring. Referring back to Smackdown, Shane asks (rhetorically) if Show hit HHH with a chair by accident or on purpose. He claims to have no idea. Then he blasts Triple H for pushing him to the mat and brags about pushing The Rock out of WrestleMania. Then he turns to Triple H and states that his dislike for him is personal, and blames him not only for driving Vince McMahon out of the business, but also for causing Stephanie to act like a "cheap slut." Then he sets up Triple H to take on Rikishi tonight.
- This cues Triple H's music and Hunter and Stephanie enter the ring. Hunter expresses remorse that Shane feels that way as the crowd chants "slut." He gets in Show's face and lets him know that he is nowhere in the same league, and predicts a long night for Show at WrestleMania. Stephanie takes the microphone and says that since HHH must face Rikishi, TBS will meet Kane in the first match. Then, turning to Shane, she slaps him right upside the head (fairly hard, too).
- We see a scene of the Mean Street Posse leading a referee to Crash Holly's hotel room, masquerading as room service. As Crash opens the door, the Posse attacks. In much the same way as happened at the end of Smackdown, the Posse ends up fighting each other for the right to make the pin. Crash manages to escape as Pete Gas samples Crash's breakfast.
- The Big Show (with Shane McMahon) vs. Kane (with Paul Bearer)
Kane takes control early, hitting Show with an inzuguri kick. Shane pulls down the rope allowing Kane to fall out of the ring. Show takes control outsine and sends Kane back into the ring. The crowd begins to chant "Big Show sucks." Both men plod along for several more minutes until Show hits a sidewalk slam, then misses an elbow drop. Kane hits a DDT off the ropes, then nails his top-rope flying clothesline. Show regains the advantages and gets ready for the chokeslam, when out of nowhere The Rock storms the ring and hits Show with the Rock Bottom as the referree calls for the bell. Kane waits for Show to rise, then hits him with a huge chokeslam. Shane is beside himself.
WINNER: The Big Show by disqualification.
- Before commercial, Mark Henry tries to convince Mae Young not to come to ringside since she just had a baby. Mae emphatically states she didn't have a baby, she had a hand, and if Mark is going out to face the Dudleys, she's joining him, period.
- We are treated to a vingette of the Acolyte Protection Agency doing an improv of "Pulp Fiction." Actually, this is pretty funny; an "ass-kicking" in France is a "poop de derriere." "The APA, because we need beer money."
- Mark Henry (w/ Mae Young) vs. D-Von Dudley (w/ Buh Buh Ray Dudley)
D-Von hits the ring quick and takes control. Mark takes control, send Buh Buh out of the ring and Mae nails a bronco buster on Buh Buh. Henry hits D-Von with a big powerslam and gets the pin. In true Dudley fashion, Henry is attacked after the bell. Buh Buh takes Mae by the hair as D-Von sets up a table. Buh Buh climbs the ropes, sets up Mae and drives her through a table. This was FAR more realisitic looking than either Terri or BB - Mae hit the table square on the back.
WINNER: Mark Henry by pinfall.
- X-Pac & Road Dogg (w/ Tori) vs. Too Cool
Too Cool hits the ring to a huge pop. The crowd is chanting "X-Pac sucks." Too Cool has the ealry advantage; Grand Master Sexay hiptosses X-Pac out of the ring then puts the Dogg down with an arm-twist and a top-rope punch. Scotty Too Hotty tags in and Road Dogg throws him out, allowing X-Pac to to throw him over the ropes and nail him with a heel kick. Scotty hits a double-DDT and tags in Sexay. Sexay gets a two-count; Scotty hits Road Dogg with a bulldog, then nails him with the Worm. X-Pac is given a double-flapjack; Sexay climbs to the top and gets ready to fly, but Tori trips him up. Suddenly, Kane's explosion hits and X-Pac looked frightened. Both X-Pac and Dogg try to fight him off, but X-Pac is swatted like a fly and Dogg takes a big chokeslam.
WINNER: Not sure, probably a no-contest.
- Kurt Angle vs. Chris Jericho for the WWF Intercontinental title
Angle greets the crowd with his standard prematch rancor, calling the people nobodys and Chris Jericho a has-been. Y2J's music hits; he calls Angle a 30-year-old never-kissed-a-girl Olympic geek and insults Angle's mother. Y2J takes early control with a series of chops and a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two-count. Angle turns the tide with a hot shot across the top rope. In what is becoming a recurring theme, the crowd is chanting "Angle sucks." Angle hits Y2J with a suplex for a two-count, but Jericho nails a bulldog for another two-count. Jericho attempts a high-cross-body but Angle ducks, and Y2J takes out the referee. he hits his Asahi moonsault bo there is no ref. Jericho goes to revive the ref; Angle tries to hit Y2J with the belt, but Jericho kicks it into his face. He slaps the Walls of Jericho on; just before he is about to get the submission (Angle almost breaks the hold), Bob Backlund hits the ring and beats Jericho senseless with the chicken wing. Angle is very happy, the crowd is not.
WINNER: Chris Jericho by disqualification
- Just before commercial, we get an up-close shot of Rikishi's enormous butt. Yikes.
- Triple H (w/Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) vs. Rikishi Phatu in a non-title match
Triple H takes control with an attack from behind and several hard punches. He goes for an immediate pedigree, but Rikishi reverses and whips the champion all over the ring. With Triple H backed into a corner, Rikishi sits on his face. Triple H hits a low blow while Stephanie distracts the referree and follows with a clothesline. Outside, Hunter slams Rikishi to the ringpost before throwing him back in. Rikishi tries to fight back, but the Game hits a face buster and gets a two-count. Hunter then goes to work on Rikishi's injured leg while the crowd chants "slut." Rikishi hits a big Samoan drop and both men fall to the canvas. Rikishi whips HHH into a corner and nails him with his butt-splash. Rikishi is about to drop the butt on HHH when Stephanie puts a chair in the ring and distracts the ref; HHH nails Rikishi with the chair as the ref calls for the bell. The Rock hits the ring and destroys Triple H with a Rock Bottom, then sets up Triple H in the corner for Rikishi, who drops the huge butt. Too Cool hits the ring and joins Rikishi for the obligatory post-match celebratoin dance as the crowd goes nuts.
WINNER: Rikishi Phatu by disqualification.
- We get a short promo of The Rock's upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live.
- As we come back from commercial, Shane and Show decide they need to go "convince" Triple H (of what we do not yet know). Al Snow is having a hilarious conversation with the stage manager about what kind of entrance they can do for Steve Blackman; Blackman approaches the stage manager and says if anything happens involving cheese, he's dead.
- Matt Hardy (w/Jeff Hardy) vs. Steve Blackman (w/Al Snow)
Blackman takes the early advantage with several hard kicks and punches, stomping Matt to the ground. Matt counters with a swinging neckbreaker, then a standing neckbreaker (ala the late Rick Rude), followed with a leg drop for a two-count. Blackman falls out of the ring and Matt leaps onto him. Blackman pikc sup Matt and drops him stomach-first off the ring apron onto the steel steps; he gets a two-count. The crowd is chanting "head cheese." The match slows way down as Blackman hits a backbreaker but misses with a diving headbutt. Matt hits a Russian leg sweep and a DDT for a two-count. Blackman gets a two-count with a belly-to-back suplex. Snow tries to get in on the action but is taken out by Jeff. Blackman, however, hits a devestating thrust kick off the top rope to get the easy win.
WINNER: Steve Blackman by pinfall.
- Backstage, Shane, Show, Stephanie and Hunter agree that the Rock needs to be stopped, so they book him to face Chris Benoit inside a cage. Hunter wants the Rock crippled.
- Edge & Christian (w/Terri, but not willingly) vs. Perry Saturn & Dean Malenko (w/Eddy Guerrero)
Terri joins the King and JR for commentary. The Radicals begin with fast double-teaming, until Saturn is dropped on his face. Saturn takes several devestating moves from both Edge and Christian before tagging out. Edge appears to blow his knee out again after Saturn clips him. Saturn torques the knee until Edge gets to the ropes; Malenko tags in and continues to work on the knee using a modified step-over toehold. The match is very slow and the crowd seems very disinterested. Christian tags in and takes out both men. Terri aapraoches the ring and helps Edge up; Edge is clocked by Malenko and knocks Terri over - she is grasping her knee. As she whines and cries, Christian is left alone and is taken out by Saturn. Edge realizes he's been dupped as Terri gets up and walks away.
WINNERS: Saturn & Malenko by pinfall.
- Crash Holly vs. Viscera for the WWF Hardcore title
Crash hits Vis with a chair with no effect; Vis clotheslines the chair into Crash. Crash is thrown into the ring steps and over the safety railing. The action quickly spills backstage as Vis hits Crash with a mop handle and dustpan. Vis is absolutely destroying Crash. They make their way back to the door of the APA. Vis falls through the door and ruins the Acolytes poker game. Bradshaw nails Vis in the face and Crash scores the pin. The Acolytes flatten Crash after the bell, then argue about who won the poker hand.
WINNER: Crash Holly.
- Michael Cole interviews the Rock, who has finally come back to Springfield. The Rock says he loves the steel cage, and that his agenda is quite clear: he is going to turn his boot sideways up Chris Benoit's candy-ass.
- Mark Henry comes back to the arena (Mae was taken to the hospital) and goes after the Dudleys, but is outnumbered and beaten down.
- The Rock vs. Chris Benoit inside the steel cage (over the top to win)
Benoit sends the Radicals back to the dressing room before the match begins. The Rock starts out fast with lots of chops, but Benoit matches him blow for blow. Benoit hits a nice snap suplex and goes for the win but is stopped. The men go back and forth as Shane and The Big Show come to ringside. Rock backdropps Benoit into the cage but is stopped going for the win. Triple H and Stephanie head to ringside. Rock his Benoit with a belly-to-back suplex as Benoit tries to get out. Rock stomps away on the Crippler as the crowd becomes completely occupied with the people at ringside. Benoit hits a huge clothesline and a belly-to-back of his own. Benoit and the Rock head to the top turnbuckle and Benoit crotches himself on the rope. Rock gets tied up in the ropes and Benoit goes to town. Benoit heads to the top as the Rock frees himself and throws Benoit off the ropes in a thunderous powerslam. Benoit recovers and takes control again until Rock throws him into the cage again. Rock is thrown into the cage himself, the Benoit hits his swandive headbutt from the top rope. Benoit tries yet again to escape but the Rock cuts him off and hits him with a spine buster. Benoit counters with suplexes, but the Rock hits the Rock Bottom. The observers at ringside are getting concerned. Benoit and Rock fight to the top of the cage again, smashing each other all the way. Rock hits a spectacular powerbomb, and Triple H starts up the side of the cage. Rock meets the Game, punches him into the Big Show, and escapes for a thrilling victory.
WINNER: The Rock
- The Rock is assaulted by Shane, HHH, and Show, who throw him back into the cage. Rock is brutalized, thrown into the cage. With shades of Smackdown, HHH goes for the chair shot but Rock ducks and he nails Show. Rock hurls Triple H into the cage and gets away as Triple H throws a huge tantrum.
