WCW Monday Nitro – January 17, 2000
Hosted by Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Bobby Heenan
Live from Columbus, OH
Kidman defeated Psychosis
-The match had already started when the show began. This was a good cruiserweight match with the usual high-risk maneuvers. Psychosis dominated most of the match, hitting several aerial moves including a flying plancha on to the floor and a guillotine leg drop from the top turnbuckle. Kidman was able to reverse a powerbomb, however, and hit a face plant for the win.
Big T defeated Booker T
-Stevie Ray offered Booker another shot to join the new Harlem Heat, but was upset when Midnight came out with Booker. The match had constant interference from Stevie, and Big T hit the Slapjack for the pin. After the match, Midnight stared at the new Harlem Heat as they left.
Vampiro defeated Disco Inferno with The Marmalukes
-Vampiro controlled most of the match. Disco was able to gain a little control with the help of the Marmalukes, but his advantage was short, and Vampiro hit his finisher for the win.
Crowbar & David Flair with Daphne defeated 3 Count with Evan Karagias to retain the WCW Tag Titles
-Standards and Practices watched on during this match. The match went back and forth until Crowbar hit an inverted DDT on Shane and got the pin.
Tank Abbott defeated The Maestro with Symphony in a Shoot Fight Rules Match
-Abbott hit Maestro with one punch and knocked him out. After the match, Norman Smiley came out and challenged Tank, but then hid behind Meng for protection.
Kevin Nash Iinterview
-All of the wrestlers were brought to the ring for Nash’s commissioner statement. He made a few bad jokes (something about Luger and Viagra), and then told them not to ask any questions about the Heavyweight Title. He also announced that Jeff Jarrett would be given back his US Title and that DDP would meet Buff in the main event tonight with Kimberly as the ref.
Masahiro Chono & Super J defeated The Varsity Club with Leia Meow
-The match went back and forth with several power moves. Chono hit a small package and got the pin.
Sid Vicious defeated the Wall
-Sid got a loud pop during the match. Sid destroyed the Wall, and got a chokeslam for the win. The Marmalukes, who were told by Nash to attack Sid, then entered and tried to attack Sid. Sid destroyed both of them. Disco refused to enter.
Big Poppa Pump Interview
-Poppa Pump entered with a Michigan jersey on, and two valets dressed as Michigan cheerleaders. He insulted Ohio State and the crowd. He then said that he had everyone’s hook up. One of the members of the crowd started yelling at Steiner, who went to the barrier and nailed the fan. I know it was a set up, but Schiavone did a really good job of selling it as real.
Lex Luger with Elizabeth defeated Bam Bam Bigelow
-Chris Kanyon came to the ring and gave Luger a champagne bottle, who nailed Bam Bam with the bottle and Luger got the pin.
Diamond Dallas Page defeated Buff Bagwell with Kimberly as Guest Referee
-Kimberly looked hot, but didn’t appear to be quite sure what to do as the ref. The match went through the crowd. Buff hit a Blockbuster, but as he went for the pin, Kimberly seemingly attacked him, but he knocked her down. Buff went to her aid, but DDP was able to hit the Diamond Cutter and got the win. Kimberly quickly left the ring, and didn’t seem to align herself with either wrestler.
