Chief Vann House

Again, I got the following information from the Chieftains Trail in Calhoun, Georgia.

Known as the "Showplace of the Cherokee Nation," the two-story Federal style brick mansion was built by Chief James Vann in 1804 and features a cantilevered stairway and many fine antiques. Vann contributed to the education of the leaders of the Cherokee Nation by inviting Moravian missionaries to teach his people and he supported Christianity as a means of progress for the Cherokees.

Chief Vann House State Historic Site is located at the intersection of Georgia 225 and 52A, three miles west of Chatsworth. Open Tuesday-Saturday. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Closed Mondays (except legal holidays), Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Small admission fee. Group rates/tours available with advance notice. Phone (706)695-2598.
