Sequoyah Birthplace Museum

Again, I got this information from the Chattanooga Area Convention and Visitors Bureau from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Sequoyah 1776-1843

This is Tennessee's only Cherokee-owned museum. The eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians uses audio-cisual displays and ancient artifacts to tell the story of Sequoyah, soldier, and inventor of the Cherokee syllabary (alphabet). The Memorial Mound next to the museum is a burial mound where Cherokees exhumed during the Tellico Project have been reburied and honored. Exhibits and the gift shop feature authentic Cherokee crafts. Special events throughout the year. Museum hours: Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday noon-5 p.m. (closed major holidays). Admission, $3 adults, $1.50 children 6-12, under 6, free. Located on tribal land next to Tellico Lake on Hwy 360, just off Hwy 411 at Conore. Call (423)884-6246.
